Speaking to local media, Northumbria Police issued a warning to fans during the game.

"Police action will be taken against those disturbing the peace and threatening the safety of themselves and others."

Police arrived at the end of the brawl and immediately began attending to the man.

Ambulance services said his condition was “serious” and he was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from police at 1.57pm today to reports of a disturbance in Sunderland.

“Fortunately, there was only one casualty. One male suffered head injuries and was in a serious condition.

“He was taken to hospital and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.”

In another video of fan clashes, a topless man can be seen bleeding after suffering a gash to the head.

Former EDL leader Tommy Robinson went live on Facebook after the fights to claim Celtic fans attacked him with “flares and missiles.”

How many times on police advise have we had kick off times moved allocation reduced travel ristriction imposed often for no real reason. Yet they saw no problem with having Tommy Robinson and his supporters and pissed up Celtic fans in the same town.

I've seen a few comments made by Tommy Robinson recently and I've found it difficult to disagree with him. He actually surprised me with how he was handling himself.

For me personally, today has been a massive own goal for him. He may well be gloating and celebrating tonight but in the long run I have a feeling that this will backfire on him. It will always be bought up when he denies inciting stuff.

Tommy has clearly provoked and incited Celtic. Why slag them off, call them muppets etc online and then in the same breath announce that you will be in Sunderland on the day that Celtic are playing there? And then to top it off, he turns up in a Rangers top.

I don't have any sympathy for the Celtic kid as he played with fire and got burned. The lad who hit him with what looks like a baseball bat is going to get 3 years minimum for what he did today - All because of Tommy Robinson and his agenda. In addition, nobody is going to take a bloke seriously who has so obviously incited the whole thing - No Tommy Robinson today = No smashed shop, no bump on the head and no 3-5 years in jail. He claims that women & children being scared. If he was so concerned about them then surely he wouldn't have put them in the situation that they found themselves in.

As sure as night turns today, it was nailed on that Celtic would land on the shop in some form. Luckily it was just a bunch of kids and the damage was minimal. Tommy got away with it, more by luck than judgement and it's noteworthy that he was one of the last people outside and onto the street.

In my eyes TR takes 100% blame for today and it's only by the Grace of God that things weren't even uglier.

Celtic have been a social cancer since 1888 they support every terrorist crackpot organisation going from the IRA to Hamas, Tommy Robinson has an Irish Catholic background but doesn't wallow in the victimhood culture so common among the West of Scotland plastic paddies who follow the Paedophile team. Hopefully when the full extent of Celtics child abuse finally comes out they will be closed down.

I'm a big fan of Tommy Robinson, I genuinely think he has been a true hero at a time when our country is both lacking them and in desperate need of them and i have defended him both on here and in conversations in the real world many occaisions and will continue to do so.

But on this instance i agree provoking the Celtic fans especially wearing a Rangers top was just downright stupid and will give his critics yet another stick to beat him with.

Just as he was getting more and more recognition as a genuine voice to be listened - this will undoubtedly push him a few steps back in damaging his reputation.

Its a shame, especially as it was so stupid and unavoidable.

The shop they attacked is half an hour from the stadium and the book signing was arranged before the match was, these clowns went there solely to cause trouble and got yet another shoeing. My thoughts are with the baseball bat, I hope it's ok and didn't sustain too much damage

Exactly, they went out of their way to cause trouble and bit off a bit more than they could chew.

It doesn't matter how far the shop is away from the stadium, it was obviously going to be targetted, just as it would have been if it was the other way round and Rangers fans were being incited - Or Cardiff fans - Or Villa fans.

My thoughts are with the lad who is going to get 3 years and also with any kids who were inside the shop at the time.

As said previously, TR has been portraying himself very well recently with some very good interviews. Yesterday has not done him any favours and will give people like Piers Morgan all the bullets they need to fire.

A Bheast supporting "journalist" Liam O'Hare started all of this encouraging Celtic fans to have a go at Tommy Robinson on twitter, TR and his family were threatened numerous times by the Bheast Support before he responded by ripping the piss out of them. There was no need for anyone being anywhere near that shop other than looking to cause trouble. There is a sizeable element within the Celtic support who have been causing increasing levels of mayhem these past few years. They even boarded a mini bus full of Rangers Fans (families not the Rangers mob) and smashed a bottle into the face of a child, was that TRs fault as well.

He exposed an element of Celtic and they don't like it. They've threatened his wife and kids, he has shown that he won't be intimidated. Good on him.

Celtic once liked are now widely regarded as scummy fans. Good to see they got their arses handed to them.
