Tom Lawrence heading to Brighton?

28/07/17

Wales international Tom Lawrence appears to be heading to Premier League new boys Brighton and Hove Albion in a club record £8 million deal, according to reports.

Tom Lawrence had a loan spell at Welsh club Cardiff City.

The Leicester Mercury believe that Lawrence, who had a loan spell with Cardiff City in 2016, could be a target for Chris Hughton - with the 23-year-old having a year left on his contract with the Foxes.

Good player but £8M???
Different type of player but hope this ends any speculation re Zohore joining them.

Agree!

I've yet to see that level of performance from Tom Lawrence and puts into perspective Neil Warnock's valuation of his 'star' striker Kenneth Zohore! ;) :ayatollah:

Shows if we were to sell Zahore we would need 12million at least for a decent replacement and small profit

Apart from one or two glimpses of ability in his loan spell with us, he was basically garbage.

He appears to have done better at Ipswich last season...but it looks like a long hard season for Brighton if this is the type of player they are relying on

I didnt rate him with us, thought he was lightweight and just an average Championship player. But his performance and the goals he scored for Ipswich from Christmas onwards would be on a par with what Zohore achieved for us in the same period.

No worse than that jack valued at £50m or Lukaku at £75m or Coutinhio at £70m or Neymar at £150m or that Mbappa at something equally stupid or even Scott Malone £3.5m.

Every day there is a story of some player or other, most of them never heard of before, being valued at ridiculous figures.

Its all nonsense but when clubs are willing to spend that type of money then who can blame the selling clubs exaggerating the values?

I'd love it if one big club went financially belly up and SKY/BT pulled out of football.

It appears that anyone with a pulse and a decent agent can get a fee.

Had his best game for us ironically against Brighton when we thumped them 4-1. I think it was the only game he got to play in his preferred wide right attacking position.

Wash your mouth out with soap, Tony! There are people on here thought he was the Messiah (despite his fate being sealed well before Neil Warnock's arrival) ;) :laughing6:

By all accounts, he was a stand out player for Ipswich last season and whilst anyone can look good on a YT video, this one certainly does him no harm:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85U87mIya1g

Warnock and many on here talk about Zohore being worth millions yet he (as a striker) scored one more goal than Lawrence did last year.

I confess that I don't know enough about Lawrence to have an opinion on what he's worth. Based on what I've read and seen last season, £8 milliion would be about right, which is around the same that WHU would want for Snodgrass who seems to be similar.

The big problem for me is that Lawrence has only seemed to have performed for 1 season (Zahore even less). If you get the player that played for Ipswich last season then £8 million is about right. If Lawrence drops back down a notch or two then £3-5 million would have been about right.

Brighton are not in a position to attract players who have performed at PL level for several seasons as these players will be signing for more established PL sides. They have no choice other than to gamble on players like Lawrence.

I personally hope they do well. They fully deserve their chance after 2 superb seasons in the Championship.

This is how I see it.

Had an awesome season with Ipswich last season. Had he had that season a year before he would have been in the starting 11 for the Euros.

£8 million is a gamble but for me its a fair one.
