Carlos Carvalhal says Lewis McGugan has no future at Wednesday
Lewis McGugan will not be joining Cardiff City, after returning to parent club Sheffield Wednesday following a trial.
The former Nottingham Forest midfielder had been invited to try to convince Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock to give him a contract in south Wales, but over the course of a two-week spell, the City boss decided against signing him.
McGugan, now 28, hasn’t played a single minute of football for the Owls, since the final day of the 2015/16 season in a 2-1 defeat to Wolves, having been frozen out by boss Carlos Carvalhal.
He will now train with Wednesday’s under-23 squad as he continues to search for a new club.

Boss Carvalhal admits he finds the situation difficult, though he does wonder why McGugan didn’t leave Hillsborough when he had the chance in January.
“It is not in my hands,” said the Portuguese boss.
“I wish that we solve the situation and he goes to play. He’s a good player and can help a lot of teams.
“He had a chance to go last year and in the winter transfer window but he didn’t move and I don’t know why.”

Carvalhal hopes the Nottingham-born midfielder can find himself a club sooner rather than later.
“I hope he can solve the situation because it is not good for anybody. I don’t like this situation as a coach,” he told the Sheffield Star.
McGugan has one year remaining on his contract at Wednesday, and spent 11 years on Trentside, amassing more than 150 appearances before leaving on a free transfer to Watford four years ago.
