Warnock post-AFC Tavistock: "A really good workout"

Neil Warnock singled out the performances of a number of Bluebirds, including some of City’s new recruits, and forwards Kenneth Zohore and Idriss Saadi.

Cardiff City continued their pre-season preparations on Monday evening, kicking off their summer tour of Devon and Cornwall with a 7-2 victory over AFC Tavistock.

Following the comfortable pre-season victory, Neil Warnock spoke to reflect on a pleasant evening’s work.

“It was a really good workout,” the Gaffer began. “It was what we wanted. We moved the ball quickly, with a lot of fitness. It was really enjoyable – some good goals and the new players found their feet.

“Some of the movement in the front three was very, very good, especially in the first half. We changed it a bit in the second half to accommodate certain situations.

“I’m always disappointed to concede, but you’ve got to give Tavistock a lot of credit. They kept going and played some good stuff at times, so you can see why they won the league last year. It was a really good night all round – a good crowd and plenty of goals.”

Neil went on to single out the performances of a number of Bluebirds, including some of City’s new recruits, and forwards Kenneth Zohore and Idriss Saadi.

“With a bit of luck, [Zohore] could have scored four or five, couldn’t he? He’s in a good place at the moment… I thought the new lads did well as well – Mendez-Laing, Loïc [Damour] and Wardy [Danny Ward]. There were a lot of plusses tonight.

“[Saadi] is always looking to play the first-time ball and get the return. He just has to brush up on certain defensive duties when we’ve lost the ball. He’ll try, he’s willing and we’ll look at him in pre-season.

“Him and Tomlin both play that particular role. There’s definitely goals in Saadi and there’s goals in Tomlin. At the moment, it’s a good place because we’ve got to have people who can come on and change a game. You can see we’ve got a lot more choice, a lot more pace and a lot more power.”
