AVERAGE SQUAD

Wed Jul 12, 2017 12:13 pm

Still not really convinced by many of these signings. It's good to see new faces and knowing that we're not paying stupid money in wages is great and I applaud the club for doing this. :ayatollah:

BUT, I can't see how we can mount a promotion chase with a squad that's quite frankly very average when you take in to account that Pilks, Noone, John, O'Keefe, etc. will be leaving. Having Warnock will give every player a boost and I'm not asking the club to spend £millions on a player for the sake of it but other than Zohore I can't see anyone changing a game? McGugan would be that guy if Warnock can get him going but even he's got a question mark next to him.

Anyone else agree? Maybe a loan star may be the answer?

i think the opposite, we got now one of the best defences in the league, Tomlin and McGugan would bring cutting edge to midfield.
Only need one more striker, if Saadi puts a shift in, in my opinion.
and bam, we could have a top 6 finish.

Compared to what? I can't see many squads much better than ours. And we have the best manager

Who's squad would you rather in the Championship this season ? With the exception of maybe Villa and Boro (at the moment).

Im happy with how the summer is going so far, although I wish we could get rid of a few more. We weren't far off last season except for lack of options on the bench, hopefully these new signings will do that. We also lacked a bit of firepower and Warnock has said that's next on the list so more than happy at the moment :occasion5:

Yeah I'm hoping be getting rid of a few we can bring in some firepower. Sometimes it takes that ONE player to make your team look so much better

Norwich, Reading, Fulham, Wolves, Villa, Middlesbrough all got better squads in my opinion. Leeds and Birmingham have bought better quality players than us too. Agree with the manager! :bluescarf:

Best defences on paper but how many times last season did we give away silly goals (even with Warnock in). Hoping Paterson will sure it up a bit! We'll see about McGugan as there's doubts we'll take him on. Still think we need a number 10 and might look good then :thumbright:

Fair play I agree with you on Fulham and maybe Reading at a push, this has got to be the most difficult seasons in the championship with some of the teams, players and managers flying around ! Couldn't pick a clear winner of the league or relegation so far

It's like this every season and to be honest at the beginning of last season Fulham and Reading wouldn't be anyway near my list but all it takes is one manager to elevate the squad and now I'm talking about how good their squad is! Wolves have bought very well (yet spent stupid money). Norwich still got a strong squad and are buying too. We'll see nearer Xmas who's there :thumbright:

Last year we were positive and look where that got us! :)

Re: AVERAGE SQUAD

110% disagree with O.P - better squad than we had last year, kept onto Bruno, one of the best defences in league, getting rid of the rot and brining in players who want to wear the shirt.

I'm all over next season :bluescarf:

Re: AVERAGE SQUAD

Why waste money on transfer fees if you can get decent out of contract players. You don't have to spend big bucks on a transfer fee if you know what you're doing. This is shaping up nicely imo and we've been caught out before bringing people in on big transfer fees.Besides,if you don't have to spend the money up front it gives you a bit more scope with salaries.

I said the same thing last season and had the same response: name teams with a better squad than ours. Well, there were 11 of them, and we finished 31 points outside of the top two. I'm not sure how much better we are than last season, but 31 points is a lot to make up if we want automatic promotion. Looking at things from a realistic point of view, it won't be easy to finish in the top 6. Just hope Warnock can conjure up something special.

I'm sure if look back on last season you wIll find a team from previous season would have made up lots points to be in playoffs ? No two seasons are same as squads change along with manager this season is no different! Besides all teams start on level points

While the signings may not seem top deaw what Warnock adds is that our squad becomes greater than the sum of its individual parts.
We haven't had a manager with that USP for a long while.

Your last sentence hits the mark. Warnock starts this season on the same points as everyone else.Had he done so last season we would have definitely finished higher.
