" BEN AMOS IS TOLD "

Tue Jul 11, 2017 11:25 am

What the hell were Cardiff playing at paying a goalie last season £15,000 a week, who had conceded more goals than any other club in the Championship the previous season, I hope from this season the committee have learnt from their very costly mistakes and no more.

Cost City over £700,000 incl tax/ni for Ben Amod to twiddle his thumps

Ben Amos: Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper told to find a new club

Ben Amos has made 53 appearances for Bolton Wanderers
Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Amos has been told to find a new club after being left out of their pre-season tour to Scotland.

The 27-year-old, who began his career with Manchester United, spent most of 2016-17 on loan at Cardiff City.

Amos joined the Bluebirds on a season-long arrangement last season and made 16 appearances for the club.

After making six senior appearances for United, Amos signed for the Trotters on a four-year deal in the summer of 2015

Unfortunately the offer for Marshall came in far to late and they had to get in anyone who was available. He wasn't the worst keeper ive seen and had a couple of decent games but not really up to it, had some poor moments. It was only a loan though so financially not the biggest train on the club and now off the books. What would have been a disaster is if they had signed him on a 2 or 3 year deal.

I agree we have to take into context the circumstances of Marshall's sale. That doesn't detract that Amos was a bad deal and the only one who benefited from it was him.

He'll never see £15kpw again because despite being an averagely good keeper his decision making is awful and no-one is going to forget his performance against Barnsley in a hurry.

We're raving about signing Lee Camp yet he's conceded 98 league goals last season? Granted his wages aren't probably any where near £15,000 but conceding goals is down to the defence in front as well as the 'keeper. Amos did turn out to be rubbish but weren't really to know that based only on goals conceded

I think Murphy is the best of the 4 we have now

How on earth Winnall scored his header in that game still pickles me to this day, I would have flopped my old boy out and saved it with that. Terrible keeper.

If it was on target it was generally a goal

Correct Lee Camp was :thumbright: :thumbright:

And yes Ben Amos was a very costly player who did nothing for us.

Agreed poor signing along with Lambert but both were panic loans/buys at end of transfer market. If the club / committee had planned better then this would not have happened.

However you have to the club/committee credit with Bennett Richards Zahore and Murphy all coming in

it's football, no club gets it right eveytime. on balance they seem to have got it right. I'm assuming the committee is still running so the likes of Bamba and the new signings will be added to that list.

He's had a massive fall from grace hasn't he- I do feel a little sorry for him really. I can't say I was his biggest fan, as a viewer I found that he only seemed to get beaten by a stunner or a rebound or something unfortunate, but then didn't really do anything - Like McGregor after him- to catch the eye - for me the hero was Murphy for a shot stopper he was excellent, his experience really showed.

That said Warnock has addressed the situation straight away and signed two very highly rated and solid GKs as his priority for nothing. Master stroke in my eyes.

I don't think Amos is done, he's still on 27 which for a keeper is still young as we all know - I remember looking at David Forde and thinking what a cack keeper he was at Barry Town, West Ham and of course City - but he was pretty much a fan favourite at Millwall and didn't do to badly.

Similar issue he'll be back

Agreed every club has good and bad signings and more so the lower the level as each one is more of a risk. Just needs a more of a balanced feel this board - continually bashing the mistakes but no credit when good.

For me the club has learnt from its mistakes and is putting things right slowly - maybe we can move on together

Not our problem anymore - But what was our club thinking at the time ...along with as posted many times last season -

We let 3 keepers go from the end of the season before to September transfer window !!!! :banghead:

correct...but he did concede 43 in the 18 games he did play.
had he not got injured and continued in that form....well it would have been 100 plus.

I stand corrected but also below poster mentioned:

And so we've signed a 32 year keeper who was injured majority of last season. But if he wasn't and kept his goals conceded ratio he would've conceded 109.

Dogfound, you're right pal. He conceded an average of 2.38 a game so if he kept that up he would've conceded 109!

Bar the Barnsley game he did alright for us, big wage yes but he weren't what people made out on here, just a scapegoat for some because people just want to hold on to anything to have a dig at board.
