A Creative Midfielder

Sun Jul 09, 2017 8:03 am

In any team unless you have mega money a creative midfielder is one of the hardest positions in football to get a signing with that extra spark. Off the top of your head it's actually quite difficult to think of any to fit into our team with Neil Warnock.

I've made a list of players who I think could be worth a look. Some would have to be loan deals and others may be out of our budget but I think they are realistic targets:

Johnny Williams - Crystal Palace
Alex Pritchard - Norwich
Kieran Dowell - Everton
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - Chelsea
Marcus Edwards - Spurs
Harry Winks - Spurs
Jason Puncheon - Crystal Palace
Andrew Surman - Bournemouth
Alan Judge - Brentford

Add more that you think are realistic targets I'm not saying all mine are great or have a chance of happening, but I think all these players would improve our squad.

Charlie Adam or Alan Judge would be ideal....though I can't see it happening.
Winks and Pritchard are very much part of their clubs' plans for next season.

I 100% agree with winks and Pritchard, but if Spurs sign one or two more midfielders winks will start falling down the pecking order which could lead to a loan of some sort, im trying to think positive

And Pritchard will be but I feel under Warnock Cardiff could be an appealing club to go to and whether your a big part of the plans in your current club, if Warnock sits him down tell him the plans they might want the move

Realistically we won't get any of those except Harry Winks. They're all Premier League quality or far too important to their clubs to let go.

Do you think? Don't agree with that

Johnny Williams isn't and will probably be sold soon.
There are a few young lads that won't be getting any first team experience 'this season so could easily be loned out
And championship level if your not in a team destined for top 2 any player has there price

Johnny Williams signed a new deal about a month ago. doesn't mean he isn't available but no doubt he will be trying to impress De Boer. I'm not sure he is up to it anyway.

I think we can do better than Williams. One or two others on the list sound tasty.

A decent list at a our level, don't think it will be any of those those, hopefully Warnock will use his experience to find a gem from somewhere?
More likely a player on the way up than a player on the way up than on the way down.

He's said he is looking for more goals from midfield and a couple more strikers, so an interesting couple of weeks to see who he gets ??

Jonny Williams and Andrew Surman both signed a new deal a few weeks ago so won't leave yet if at all. Any good player in the Championship will only move for a team that are big and destined to return to Premier League. This is why the only side who purchased players of Premier League quality from other Championship sides last season were Villa and Newcastle.

Players like Alan Judge and Alex Pritchard are far too good for us. Judge will join recently relegated Prem side or a Prem team. Pritchard will stay at Norwich but will join Prem side if they don't get promoted.

All of the current premier league players you mentioned have a future at their clubs and granted a loan maybe suitable but can only see Loftus-Cheek and Winks loaned out and with Premier League teams already linked with them I can't see us competing with that.

The only realistic chance maybe Winks on loan which would be a coup or Puncheon as he hasn't had much game time for Palace.

My bad, Puncheon was made captain on the back of end of last season (granted it was Big Sam in charge but still).

Just my opinion of course but for varying reasons I don't think any of them will be here next season.

Puncheon !!! after what he said about Warnock :D I don't think so

As a fully paid up member of the "Whitts is (was) god" fan club and previously McPhail i really don't see why we need one.

Get the ball, play it forward quickly, lose it, get it back quickly..............start again.

I guess we are playing a high tempo direct game, creatives normally play at a slower tempo.

Even if we play 433, 3 athletic pressers with 3 goal scoring forwards, all you need is to get it into a zone. We seriously don't need Whitts bullet like passes.

Like it or not, this is money ball. This type of player costs a fortune.

Tom Lawrence should be the main target he can play the ten or on the wing and his pace on the counter would be terrifying to defenders
