Selling on the cheap

Thu Jul 06, 2017 11:06 am

Why do we always sell our players on the cheap?
Lets face the facts the vast majority of our players who have been sold on have been sold for a pittance.
Swansea have got it right, they put vastly inflated prices on their players and say to any interested clubs, "if you want to buy our player, heres the asking price, take it or leave it".
And more often than not they get the price they want.

Yes they sell their good/best players at inflated prices but at what cost? Make millions in profit from sales but at the deprement of the teams performances last season only escaped relegation in last couple of weeks season before the same thing! This season got rid two fowards so far and one a £15m purchase, replacing him with a talented 21yr old on loan with barely a game in premiership (If any) is that good in long term
Considering previous two seasons? :old:

Thing is Swansea sell players in form and in the premiership.

I don't think we are any different to many clubs, who in particular are you referring to?
We tend to sell players in decline or struggling for little who then go on to do well.

When do we actually sell players? Most have had contracts mutually terminated.

Last proper sale (of a first team player) that I can think of was Joe Mason and we got £5m for him. Think we got a good deal.

Last player we sold for a fee what I can remember off the top of my head was Joe Mason and the 3 million we had for him was very good business indeed so I don't get your point?

My thoughts - we've only actually sold Emyr this transfer window and by all accounts we made a small profit...

I don't think so, a season later and you could now pick him up even cheaper now. Probably should have sold him earlier but then the club would have been slated for that. I have no problem with that sale, more thankful we sold him then as his value now is minimal and on a huge wage.

bigger problem with the Rudy sale to be honest loaning him to Blackburn with an option to buy for peanuts just showed lack of intelligence.
