GLASGOW RIVALRY: IS THIS GOING TOO FAR?

Rangers Manager Bans Green Boots From The Club Because Of Celtic

Over the years, we've seen plenty of superstitious reasons to get rid of things at football clubs. There was Vincent Tan, the owner of Cardiff City, wanting to only sign players with the number eight in their birthdays; the same Vincent Tan who was caught booing his own team.

Then there was the magnificent Massimo Cellino at Leeds, who sacked Paddy Kenny for being born on the 17th of May. 17, an unlucky number for Cellino.

Now we can add the new Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha to the list. According to the Daily Record, he's banned his squad from wearing boots with the colour green on them.

Why? Because green is the colour of Celtic! The Hoops finished 39 points ahead of their arch-rivals last season, and Caixinha wants that gap to close via superstition.

From today, no one will wear boots of that colour because it is the colour of Celtic.

The slogan ‘We are the People’ will be stamped on the walls for both our players and opponents to feel the strength of Rangers.
Because nothing will close a 39 point gap more than a change in a boot colour.

Despite being involved in one of the most aggressive rivalries in football, Caixinha also told the paper that he hasn't had too much trouble in Glasgow.

The Rangers fans are full of hope, the Celtic fans are upbeat and excited and that’s normal because they have won six titles in a row.

Only once have I been bothered. In the centre of the city, a drunk Celtic fan upset me, but it was nothing.

Rangers started their 2017-18 campaign with a victory over Progres Niedercorn in the Europa League.

The Scottish season kicks off in just over a month (5th August) with the first Old Firm derby taking place in Ibrox on the 23rd of September.

Don't expect Rangers to be sponsored by Mr Green anytime soon.

Quite right, I wear nothing green. However I think he has more urgent matters to attend to.

I'm sure the Mexicans he's signed are happy to hear that, although I do agree in a way it's a rivalry like nothing in the world I've seen

I've never been to Scotland, let alone Glasgow but if this is such a hate filled rivalry? Why have I met gangs from Glasgow in the likes of Spain, Greece etc who are Gers and Bhoys on holiday together..

Of course we all knocked about together, work together and socialised together so it's normal we'd holiday together, the press encourages the rivalry to sell papers but we're not constantly fighting each other.

I remember one fan planting an African blue grass in his garden and in the Rangers Stronghold of Larkhall even the green traffic lights get smashed, national businesses like Subway with a green livery change it to blue if they want to carry on trading in the town, sounds mental but that's just the way it is. Hibs and Hearts are not in the same ballpark when it comes to rivalry.

Everyone can their own experiences and opinions Jock  , perhaps it has something to do with having a great day at the old firm and getting hit on the head with a bottle by a fecking Jambo. :laughing6:

I lived up there for 2 years when I was 14 to 16 and it starts in the school system with the Catholic (Celtic) and other schools thinking nothing of a lunchtime dust up to pass the time, or that's how it was when I was in school. If they have nobody else to pick on they liked nothing more than jumping someone who was Welsh, although I was always second choice to anyone English.
