We live in a village about 15 mins out of Cardiff. When we first moved here 15 years ago we may see 5 cars in 1 hour - now it is literally every 2 mins! Not only the volume has largely increased but the speed! It says 30 MPH for a reason but people drive down the road like maniacs reaching speeds of approx 55 MPH? - maybe more. Not everyone does but a large percentage! There is no pavement at all in the entire village and when people are out walking etc the drivers dont appear to slow down that much or give you a wide birth but you hVe no choice but to walk on the road itself. Years ago people would slow up etc. Even on the lanes where yes I know the speed limit chNges but people approach a bend at say 50 and you are just around the corner walking your dog for example - it's so unsafe. There are a lot of elderly people in the village and could easily get hit by a car. I feel like it's just a matter of time before something awful happens - I dont understand why the council can't put some speed bumps or slowing measures. Frustrating!

I think the standard of driving has got worse as technology has made cars safer. I have noticed in the last 10 years or so driving standards are sometimes almost a joke, and you wonder how some people ever managed to pass a test. Also, consideration for other road users is almost non existent in this day and age. I assume it will only get worse as we see fewer traffic police on the roads.

Last night I came off a roundabout heading into a Retail Park and a car followed me inches from my arse. I could see it was a pair of young knobheads tailgating me in a Renault Clio (surprise surprise!)
I headed through the Retail Park with these clowns seemingly stuck to the back of my car and I did what I always do in these circumstances and slowed almost to a standstill to wind them up. I turned into a housing estate with road humps the entire length of the road and slowed down even more to pass over them. What did the driver behind do? He overtook me of course, just avoiding bumping an oncoming car on the opposite side of the narrow road and took off in the distance with the car bouncing up and down over the road humps. Sometimes you wonder don't you?

I think I will contact the council - probably one person complaining won't make much of a difference but I know that other village residents are unhappy about this too. There is an elderly home not far away and every day almost one of the residents from the elderly home goes for a walk through the village - I've literally seen people speed past them and very close too. It drives me mad. Not so long ago I went out for a walk with the dog and a car was coming from behind and I stopped and got right over onto the grass verge. Just as the car went past me, it reved up and the person stared at me. I wondered what on earth wS that all about? A person on the other side of the road walking the other way called out......she nearly hit you! She was on her mobile and did t see you until the last min hence the driver looked at me shocked. She had also been driving way too fast. ! I fear the only way the council will put traffic slowing measures in places if is something happens.

you'd think a village would be safer than a town to go for a walk but believe me - it's a knightmare.

Opposite problem here with old farmers and little old ladies going at about 20/30mph on 60/70mph rds real hazardous when rd busy!

I drive back and for to Bristol everyday and I have seen some right numpties!
You get people undertaking and driving up the arses of cars until they move out of the way. People leave late for work then risk life and limb tying to make the time up! I wouldn't mind betting they go through the same process nearly every morning too!
I saw a bloke the other day who was changing lanes with his left hand indicator stuck on. As I passed him I glanced into his van and he was on his phone and clearly not paying attention to his driving!

As Steve says above the consideration for other drivers has gone right out the window and I don't live that far from the Urdd Camp and I tell you if they put a speed camera on the end of the LANE at approx. 0855 any week day morning they would have a field day.
Sad thing is the clowns are usually the ones who work away from an accident !!!!

Perhaps you could do an online or standard petition or both? If you get all of the local residents to back you up the council will have to listen. If they do not and somebody gets killed you will have amunition to get them done for negligence which although too late is better than nothing and might make other councils think about acting.
