Replacement for Harry Maguire

By Ryan Burton

HITC

Sunday 18th June 2017

Hull City should look to Cardiff City defender Sean Morrison to fill the void left by the departure of Harry Maguire.

Hull City lost defender Harry Maguire to Leicester City earlier this week in a deal worth £17 million (BBC), and they would be wise to spend a significant chunk of this fee on signing Cardiff City defender Sean Morrison.

The departure of Maguire and fellow defender Curtis Davies to Championship rivals Derby County marks the start of what will be a busy summer at the KCOM Stadium.

Following their relegation from the Premier League, it was always likely that the club would lose 24-year-old Maguire but the additional loss of Davies has left the Tigers short of options in central defence.

Michael Dawson is currently the only recognised centre-back left from Hull's Premier League campaign and this is an area of the squad that will need immediate attention.

Understandably, Hull fans will be keen to see signings made sooner rather than later in this area of the pitch. If the Tigers are to stand a chance of an immediate return to England's top tier, then the funds from the Maguire sale will need to reinvested straight back into the squad.

Harry Maguire left Hull for Leicester City in a £17 million deal

Morrison should be made a priority target by new Hull boss Leonid Slutsky. The 26-year-old enjoyed a fine campaign , he was a mainstay in the Cardiff defence but proved to be just as effective in the opposition area, after ending the season with four goals and eight assists.

The Bluebirds captain has been the subject of interest and a rejected bid £3 million from Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday (Sky Sports).

After the sale of Maguire, Hull will be likely to afford the transfer fee demanded by Cardiff. Morrison will enter the final year of his contract at the Cardiff City Stadium and the club may decide to cash in on one of their prized assets.

Unless we can negotiate a contract we should sell, especially if we keep manga

I agree, if City really can get over £3mill for Sean Morrison and Bruno Manga stays, I would sell Morrison :thumbright: :bluebird:

Would never sell Morrison.

If the links with this Heneghen guy from Motherwell are true then I can see morisson going. Manga and Bamba at the back with Conolly and Heneghen covering, Halford and Patterson can also play centre back which leaves the RB position for Jazz and Peltier. If an offer of 6mil comes in for him I'd definitely sell, could use that money somewhere else on the pitch. Haven't really seen Heneghen play though or heard of him before for that matter.

I imagine Hull will be in for players like Ivan Bollockov and Ivan Jerkov and the like hopefully as they appear to have an Eastern European influence at their place.

Hopefully they'll use that money buying those Russian statues who played against Wales last summer as Im sure their manager will want his players - they were effin dreadful.

Morrison is a good player

Do we need to sell - if not - don't sell

If we can we should try and keep hold of players like Morrison. We would be stupid to sell him at this moment in time.

One of our most under rated players and is far from peaking, he will keep improving much like Hudson did.

Also according to whoscored.com he was our second best player last season behind Bamba.

With only 12 months left on his contract the club should be looking to move him on and bring in a decent chunk of money that I'm sure NW will use wisely.

Morrison was signed by OGS and I have a feeling he will be on decent money and there will be little or no chance of the club matching his current wage, so get some decent money for him and let him go.

Surely the club cannot afford to let him go for nothing in 12 months time.

Totally agree. I was stunned Sheffield W would offer £3m for him never mind an even higher bid from Hull. If that bid comes in then we should take it ASAP and add it to NW's transfer kitty.

Look at it this way we all have opinions and Morrison was subject to an official approach recently. So there maybe other interest out there making this thread a legitimate subject for debate.

I second this :thumbright: but still don't believe £3mill was offered for him and if it has been offered, please take it :thumbright:

I agree with the new contract signed or sell soon. Warnock likes him so as captain as well there's no real reason why he wouldn't commit. So test him and offer contract or sell if he doesn't sign.
Personally think he's good enough and should sign him up
