Cardiff City are poised to sign Rotherham United striker Danny Ward, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Cardiff have made Ward one of their top targets this summer and it seems Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock is set to land his man.

Warnock is a big fan of Ward having worked with him during his reign in charge of Rotherham during the 2015/16 season.

Rotherham have been resigned to losing Ward following their relgation from the Championship last season and they activated a clause in his contract to ensure they could command a decent fee for him.

Ward was Rotherham's shining light last season, scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances for the Millers and the club rejected offers from several sides in January.

A number of Championship clubs have shown an interest in Ward, but Cardiff have moved quickly to agree a deal for the former Huddersfield Town man.

Warnock is keen to bolster his attacking options at the Cardiff City Stadium as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion and he sees Ward as a vital addition to his plans.

Totally agree, but unfortunately if it's not a name then some of our fans dismiss them before they've kicked a ball.

12 goals in a totally shit Championship side is good going. I'm looking forward to seeing him prove a few wrong hopefully.

You don't know what to expect until he puts the City shirt on, look at Torres after he left Liverpool, look at the Ukrainian who played for AC Milan and went to Chelsea, both proven and was destined to do it for years but came out dry.. let him get on the pitch for us and then we can make our own judgement.

I'm all for that dand and will support him all the way but I feel if warnock wants a top six finish we may need better only my opinion if course

Warnock obviously knows him well and rates him. By all accounts he can play striker and wide left. Hope we also sign the other Danny Ward - There's only two Danny Wards / two Danny Wards...

Was it not warnock who converted him to a striker while at rotherham I think he was mostly played on the wing at Huddersfield

During Rotherham’s dire season in the second tier, where they finished well adrift at the bottom of the league table, Danny Ward was a rare shining light for them.

The former Huddersfield Town man netted twelve goals for the Millers, finishing as their top scorer this season.

Ward was a wanted man in January and he is again this summer.

Cardiff look set to beat off competition from a number of clubs to land the impressive striker, who can also play as a winger.

Neil Warnock has been active so far in this summer transfer window, wrapping up deals for Walsall goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, Rochdale winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Hearts right back Callum Paterson.

Aside from Kenneth Zohore, Warnock’s attacking options were fairly goal-shy and he will be hoping that Ward can resolve this.

Warnock is set to reunite with the 26-year-old forward after working with him during his spell as Rotherham manager in the 2015/16 season.

Just give this guy a chance lads don't rule them out until they get a good few months at least look at Zahore called talentless by a few now look at him

Not a name to set the world alight but certainly not one to dismiss too quickly. Look at what Warnock got out of Zohore in only a few months! Given a full pre-season and some (hopefully) better service, I can see a Zohore-Ward partnership bringing us close to 40 goals next season.

12 goals in a relegated side is pretty good. As said above the name doesn't set the world alight but at 25 this guy could be the perfect signing for us and one Warnock knows well.
