THERESA MAY HAS REMAINED AS PRIME MINISTER
The current Prime Minister, Theresa May, leader of the Conservative Party, was appointed by the Queen on 9 June 2017.
ELECTION RESULT: HISTORIC NIGHT! A HUNG PARLIMENT
Friday 9th June 2017
The Tories 319 seats, so will still be the largest party, Labour 265 and the SNP 34.
The exit poll conducted by the major broadcasters has suggested that General Election 2017 is set to end in a hung parliament.
The projection would mean that Theresa May's gamble in calling the vote has failed.
According to the poll, the Tories would lose 17 seats taking them to 324. Labour would be on 266, a rise of 34.
The Lib Dems are forecast to gain six to 14 and the SNP forecast to lose 22.
A party would need 326 seats for a majority, leaving the Tories dependent on the support of another party.

Already calls for from Conservative MP's forTheresa May to go:
Anna Soubry, the Conservative former minister, has said that Theresa May should “consider her position”.
Effectively that amounts to calling for her resignation.
Asked if May could remain prime minister, she said: "That is a matter for her."
"That sounds like a no", David Dimbleby said. Soubry went on:
"It is bad. It is a matter for her ... She is in a very difficult place. She’s a remarkable and very talented woman and she doesn’t shy from difficult decisions. But she now has to, obviously, consider her position ... Theresa did put her mark on this campaign. She takes responsibility, as she always does and I know she will, for the running of the campaign. It was a tightly-knit group. And it was her group that ran this campaign."
Soubry also said that May had run “a pretty dreadful campaign”. That was being "generous", she said.

On the BBC Chuka Umunna has just said he would consider serving in the shadow cabinet (or cabinet?) if offered a job by Jeremy Corbyn. Umunna, who was shadow business secretary under Ed Miliband, is on the opposite wing of the party to Corbyn, and has not been a vocal supporter of his.
But all night Labour figures previously sceptical about Corbyn have been lining up in the broadcast studios to pay tribute to him.
And they have done it quite sincerely even if, in some cases, perhaps reluctantly. Corbyn’s achievement really has been striking.

Iain Duncan Smith, the Conservative former work and pensions secretary, has told Sky News that he does not think there should be a Tory leadership contest. He said the country could not afford to wait, because it needed to get on with the Brexit negotiations.

Stayed up all night and in my opinion a hung parliment is not good for our country.
There's No real winner.
Theresa May let her party down and the country that's my opinion and she should take all the blame, end of politics now for me.
Theresa May faces the humiliation of ending with fewer seats than when she called the election.
The Tories are projected to finally get 318 seats so will still be the largest party, Labour 265 and the SNP 34.

Expected a reduced majority, a hungodly parliament is appalling.
Theresa May was too expectant of an increased majority and was spectaculary wrong.
She will have to go.
Don't rule out another election in October.

We'll see.
I'm surprised at how well Labour have done, but it's what the electorate have decided that May, nor the Tories, are the standalone answer.
Overall number of votes will be interesting.

Well, it looks like a Conservative/DUP government. That should make for some interesting Brexit talks. Business as usual in Wales which we all knew would be the outcome, that will give us 25 years of a Labour lead Welsh government by the end of this term so we know roughly what we face here. Can't help wondering how different this result may have been with Burnham leading Labour. Would they now be in power with a working majority?

Always felt it would be a hung parliament although I did not want that.
For me it feels like we are committed to something we really don't want and that is Brexit. I'm in favour of a hard Brexit but now it looks like it is going to be very soft that it will not be worth having.
I believe May will stay on and deliver the soft Brexit which I believe is what she wanted to do all the time. To me I believe it has been a big con all the way.

All this makes no difference to Joe Public!!!
Mrs May came across as a bumbling idiot, unsure back tracking and coming out with some of the worst ideas she could make just before an Election.
Mr Corbyn played a blinder giving and saying what everyone wanted to hear even though he had no idea of realistically how he was going to pay for it.
The great thing is that Mrs Sturgeon hasn't been seen.
Brexit will continue and deals with EU will remain the same.
At least the fixtures are out soon and we continue to sign players!!!!!!!!
Fri Jun 09, 2017 7:07 am
May will be gone today
She asked for a mandate for Brexit and didn't get one.She cannot now negotiate on behalf of Britain.
Just goes to show you can't win hearts and minds by slagging of the opposition and having no policy other than screwing people that can least afford it.
Back under their stones for all the little right wing haters.

The ordinary person, probably most of us on here, would not have see much difference whoever won. We are used to Carwyn down the Bay, and I expect things will remain as they have done for quite a few years in Wales. Worst thing that could happen would be Boris as PM, almost as bad as Corbyn as PM. Still, I know my life won't change much, no party has had any big impact on my life in the last 45 years so it's back to football talk for me and roll on the start of the season.

Not quite complete yet.
Somewhere alomg the line Brexit will be abolished.

Corbyn (less votes) calls for May (more votes) to resign, so he can form a Govt that represents the country.
This confirms that that no-one needs a mandate for anything.
It's how the Welsh Assembly works - forget about the numbers, just convince yourself you have a mandate, and take control.
Also known as undemocracy.

Seriously.
Corbyn appealed to the people with no voice
The young with no prospects, the hard up, the taken for granted, the bullshitted on Brexit.
Unfortunately, there are many of these in U.K. Today.
They turned out - to make their votes heared.
Great event, and the circus goes on.......

I believe May will now try to salvage her reputation by going for a hard BREXIT. TBH she really doesn't have a choice as the whole idea of the landslide was that she could get away with a softer version. She is on a knife edge and anything that looks like a soft option will lead to an open rebellion.
Also going into coalition with the DUP is playing with fire because if a hard BREXIT results in a hard boarder in N Ireland then the ramifications for the Good Friday agreement could be catastrophic.
The irony is we are now heading for a coalition of chaos led by Theresa May!

Personally I would like to thank Wez who I believe did more than anyone to wipe out the Tory majority and revive the flagging Labour Party
Being serious Corbyn is a battle hardened campaigner who we all (including me) underestimated. We are now heading for another election within a year and if JC can tweak his team by bringing in some of the talented backbenchers like Chuka Umunna and Yvette Cooper whilst ditching liabilities such as Diane Abbott, then Labour are heading for a landslide of their own

Interesting question and maybe we would have Prime Minister Burnham today if circumstances had taken a different turn. That said would Theresa May have called an election in the first place with Andy Burnham as opposition leader?
Also JC's biggest success was getting the youth vote out. There is a theory doing the rounds that the UKIP vote wasn't a 50/50 split between Labour and the Conservatives, but more like a massive surge in the 18-25 age group getting out and backing Labour which more than compensated for UKIP voters switching to the Tories.
Would Andy Burnham have managed to do the same?

That's partially true but not all UKIPers were Tories, otherwise there would have been a greater turnout. A lot of ex UKIP votes went to Labour.

Chuka Umunna , what a horrible, loud- mouthed , disrespectful excuse of a human being.
sorry to sit on the fence with this
ps. Paul Flynn what a disgusting thing to tweet last night after all the deaths we have seen lately.

I think this result shows what a poor choice we all had, which was something we brought up a while back. A party who fought the worst campaign in political history and a leader described as weak and wobbly have still polled the most votes. I believe Corbyn, like Milliband and Kinnock was virtually unelectable, but in reality May was almost as bad. What a choice for the British public, we were all on to a loser whoever won.

Any different to the way the Tories have been horrible, loud-mouthed and disrespectful to every Labour candidate? Of course not.
May lost tonight. What an embarrassment she is. She had staged managed the entire thing and still ballsed it up to an opposition that couldn't win.
This is her legacy, the worst politician of recent history.
Fri Jun 09, 2017 9:06 am
What could have happened if Labour had chosen the right brother to lead the party? We may well have had years of Labour in power, and Brexit would probably never have been much of a talking point. I think if David Milliband had ended up in charge, Labour would have walked this election. In fact, this election would never have taken place. We will never know how differently things may have turned out for this country.

The Tories fought well in Scotland - banging on about a second independence referendum
that the Scots have no appetite for.
with all the shite going on around the world, better together most people in UK think.
If it weren't for Scotland - Misses May would be gone now
She has actually lost her election
Now the Tories have to work with a powder keg that is Northern Ireland politics.
oh dear oh dear
