Celtic willing to lose out on Hayes as they chase Roberts

05/06/17

Celtic look set to miss out on the signing of Aberdeen’s Jonny Hayes as they look to capture winger Patrick Roberts on a permanent deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The Scottish treble-winners offered the Dons £1 million plus Ryan Christie on-loan for a season, though English Championship side Cardiff City look set to offer Derek McInnes’ side £1.2million in a bid to lure the winger away.

The stuttering talks have led many to believe that Brendan Rodgers is trying to finalise a deal that would see Patrick Roberts move to the Hoops on a permanent contract.

The England U20’s winger has spent the past 18 months out on-loan at the Glasgow club and returned to parent club Man City recently, but he could be back in the green and white next season.

If Celtic are prepared to pay a fee close to £10 million that City want for Roberts, it could be a quick return to Glasgow for him.

The Hayes deal will likely soon come to an end as the 29-year-old winger has been given 48 hours to resolve his future before Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with Austria on Sunday.

we said the same of craig noone. I'm 50/50 over this deal, £1.2m for a player who is coming upto 30 years of age, in the championship he'll have 1 maybe 2 years of his career at the top level before its time to call it a day, I'd prefer we use matty kennedy

I think a lot of people are missing the point about Warnock. He is not putting together a team for the long term or even the medium term really, its just about next season which for me is shit or bust.To that end Matty Kennedy maybe this or that some time in the future but what he's looking for is players with a proven track record that will hit the ground running immediately.I think tried and tested is what he wants and if the wheels come off so be it.Someone else will have to pick us up again this time next year.

Don't like this deal, whereas he maybe a good player, I would prefer the million pound to be invested in a younger player that will be at city for hopefully years to come, Hayes as a winger knocking on the doors of 30 won't hold onto his pace much longer, surely there is better value out there.

Warnocks not building for the future.
He's building for next season.

Age is just a number these days. If you got quick feet speed isn't key

I suppose when it's not his money he's playing with he doesn't care, he just wants next season to be a success, which worries me bcoz what if it ain't, another 1.2 mil down the swanny.

Hayes looks brilliant each time I watch him. The championship is a different ball game so only time will tell.
I'm hoping Tan will sell up if we don't go up next season.
