The worst decisions by Neil Warnock

Dismissal of Emyr Huws
Opinion is split on whether Emyr Huws is good enough to feature in Cardiff’s midfield, and whether he could displace the likes of Gunnarsson, Whittingham or Ralls.
However, he wasn’t given a fair crack of the whip after joining from Wigan Athletic in the summer.
The midfielder even ended up taking a sizable wage cut to join Ipswich on loan and he impressed during his spell in Norfolk.
He’s still a Cardiff player, at least for the time being, and it’s unclear whether he will be deemed good enough next season.
But whether Neil Warnock was fair giving the Welsh international just one chance to impress in an all-round disappointing FA Cup defeat, is a talking point between supporters.
Shutting out the fringe players
Warnock has been known throughout his career for having faith in a select group of players and if he’s your manager, you don’t want to be a fringe player.
There’s no doubt the experience boss has his favourites in a squad and that could be one of his downfalls.
The players who unexpectedly give you a boost, just like Stuart O’Keefe under Russell Slade, can come in very handy during a season and you just don’t see that happening under Warnock.
Players like O’Keefe and Huws were shut out and sent on loan without a thought, and it could be a concern for Cardiff fans that fringe players haven’t got a fair chance of pushing the first team regulars.
A harsh criticism perhaps, but Warnock’s treatment of some fringe players may be one of his worst decisions during his reign.
Lack of desire to keep Peter Whittingham
Cardiff have offered Peter Whittingham a contract and whether he will sign it, we are likely to find out within the next couple of weeks.
It’s a reduced contract which makes sense given the reduced role he would inevitably play next season.
However, it’s the fashion in which the Bluebirds offered the contract and the lack of desire shown to keep one of the club’s best ever servants which is disappointing.
Whittingham has been fantastic for the club during the last decade and it’s clear he still has quality to offer at Championship level.
The least he deserved was for Cardiff to make it crystal clear they wanted him to stay instead of the careful and stuttering manner the news broke.
Whittingham’s future is extremely unclear and that will disappoint the majority of fans – Warnock’s lack of desire to keep the midfielder is going down as one of his poorer decisions.
Lack of investment in January window
The season ended brightly despite the lack of action during the January window and it certainly wasn’t detrimental to the season.
Having said that, It caused frustration for many supporters when Warnock failed to spend money after weeks of building up the January window.
Warnock kept saying ‘I can’t wait for the transfer window’ after a series of disappointing results at the back-end of last year and it caused excitement among fans.
But come the close of the January window, Cardiff had only managed to sign squad player Greg Halford,
A portion of the Bluebirds’ faithful felt let down by the lack of action and some lost trust means Warnock may look back on the move as a poor one.
Placing little emphasis on FA Cup tie
Cardiff dropped out of the FA Cup with a 3rd round home defeat to Fulham at the Cardiff City Stadium.
It was a game Neil Warnock revealed he struggled to get motivated for, saying he struggled to get out of bed for the 11.30am kick-off.
City fans enjoy the FA Cup and it’s a competition they hold close to their heart being the only Welsh club to win it, and then defying all the odds to reach the final in 2008.
A complete lack of motivation from Warnock upset a few despite the league needing to take priority following a very poor start.
Supporters look to the team and manager to set the tone and a disappointing lack of belief from Warnock wasn’t one of his finest moments.
