Neil Warnock is keen to have midfield playmaker Peter Whittingham in his Bluebirds squad next season, but Whitts is now already in talks with two other clubs.

Long-serving ‘Whitts’ has spent the last decade playing for Cardiff City and he has been offered a new one-year contract.

Whittingham, 32, is also in talks with other clubs and manager Warnock says: “In Peter’s case he is looking at his options, quite rightly so because it’s a reduced offer.

“If he could get two years – and his agent says one or two clubs are offering him that – then you can’t blame him.

“It’s up to Peter. I think he’d be better off with us. I’m not really looking to replace him.

“I’m not saying he’s going to be a regular, but I think he could definitely make a good contribution.

“I’ve not set a deadline, I’ve not got anyone lined up in that respect. He’s got to work out what’s best for his family at this stage of his career.”

Whitts was on approx £25,000 a week, City are believed to have offered £8,000-£10,000 a week.

Personally think it might be time for him to move on. He's not going to be starting for us very often.

Would also say that I wouldn't want Joe Ledley back either.

I believe it was 7 goals and 7 assists last season from Whitts, did anyone else get near that apart from Zahore

For me give him 2 more years

At this stage of his career, he has to go where the money is. A big drop in wages if he stays here, although most of us would'nt mind a weekly salary like that.

getting the feeling that this is not about money but length of contract, suppose a solution could be longer contract but less money.
Simples :D

His agent would say that, would he not?

Just let him go with our thanks for 10 great years....he's a shadow of the player he was 5 years ago and he just will not fit into the high pressure, quick tempo game needed in the championship.

It time for him to move on

Simple Solution really, give him a one years contract with targets,to activate a second season,if whitts is still confident he can produce the goods, there shouldn't be a problem

Irrespective of the undoubted emotional ties, 'Dick,' is not the player he was. The first six years at City he made an excellent contribution to games but during the last four seasons he has become an increasingly peripheral figure. You mention his his assists but those are because he takes all corners and free kicks. How many assists has he had from open play? Regarding his goals, half of those were penalties.

Football is a brutal game and the harsh reality is we need far more pace from the centre than Whitts can offer. Anything more than the £8k/wk offered would be better utilised keeping Manga.
