Celtic to beat Cardiff and Forest to Aberdeen star Hayes

Celtic are set to win the battle for Aberdeen winger Johnny Hayes, TEAMtalk understands.

The 29-year-old was instrumental in the Dons’ excellent season – which saw them finish runners-up to Celtic.

Thursday 1st June 2017

Now Brendan Rodgers has sanctioned the move to land the Republic of Ireland winger.

A host of clubs south of the border had shown an interest with Cardiff City the front-runners – after they had two bids rejected for him in January.

Former Rangers boss Mark Warburton, now in charge at Nottingham Forest, was also keen, but Celtic had a trump card after agreeing to let Ryan Christie move to Aberdeen as part of the deal.

Christie, 22, scored six goals in a loan spell in the latter half of last season and The Dons have now struck a deal with Celtic, to re-sign him on a permanent basis.

bad move for the player imo, he will be sat on the bench at celtic most games where i think he would start for us, cant blame him though champions league football and a title guaranteed

If he's a Republic of Ireland player, then he is probably 'Celtic Minded'.

Not a shock there, we are hardly likely to beat a club the size of Celtic in a race to sign a player.

If correct its a frustrating but all to familiar outcome

Delighted this this is being done so early because at least we wont waste another whole transfer window chasing the guy.

We can move on and look at other targets.

I only want players who want to play for the club - so this guy can stay & rot in the cesspit that is Parkhead.

Seen him a few times this year and wasn't overly impressed anyway, don't think he's much of an improvement (if any) from what we already have - and that's saying something.

The problem is there are not many players who particularly want to play for this club, or any other particular club, other than those brought up in the area and who probably supported us when they were young. Most players will play for virtually any club who are willing to pay them a big salary, and preferably be in with a serious chance of winning some silverware. I doubt if many of the Chelsea or Man City players would have had major ambitions to play for them if it was'nt for the salaries they pay, and the opportunity of winning some major trophies. Money and playing in tournaments like the Champions League take priority over everything.

Let him play in a one team league!

If he has no ambition let him stay in his comfort zone

Bye Bye

He will be playing in a one team league for a side with the third highest average attendance in British football, the first British team to become European champions, a team known throughout Europe and many parts of the world, or he could go to a small team in S Wales and play in front of 15,000 people to earn less money, and have virtually no chance of winning any sort of a trophy. I can understand why a player based in Scotland would choose Celtic over most Championship sides.
