Southampton starlet Sam Gallagher IS among those on Cardiff City'S transfer agenda

Wednesday 31st May 2017

By Chris Wathan

Neil Warnock is thought to have held talks over summer deals as he seeks to add to the Bluebirds' firepower - but a deal for Joe Ledley is unlikely

Neil Warnock is thought to have already held talks with the main men he wants to sign for Cardiff City this summer – but a homecoming for Joe Ledley isn't on the cards.

And instead the Bluebirds boss will concentrate on landing a new striker to provide the goals for a play-off charge – with Southampton starlet Sam Gallagher thought to be among those being targeted.

Ledley, 30, is set to leave Crystal Palace this summer as his Selhurst Park deal comes to an end. It had led to supporter speculation a return to Cardiff City Stadium would be in the pipeline for the midfielder, the Wales Euro 2016 hero having come through the ranks with his hometown team.

But Ledley's Premier League wages mean there is little hope of Cardiff being able to match rival offers, with the former Celtic man thought to want to stay in the top-flight.

It's meant the midfielder is not thought to have been on the Bluebirds' wish list as Warnock throws his focus on attacking talent to try and give Cardiff a chance of a play-off push next season.

Having led the side from relegation worry to mid-table with impressive ease, the veteran promotion-winner has eyed greater firepower and cutting edge in attack as the area he wants to concentrate on with his summer rebuilding.

It is understood Warnock has already made headway as he seeks support for last year's surprise top scorer, Danish rookie Kenneth Zohore.

Cardiff are keeping their cards close to their chest in terms of who is heading up their target list, with Warnock understood to have had discussions over a number of potential signings.

But it is thought that 21-year-old live-wire Gallagher is among those who have been identified by the 68-year-old, the Saints product having impressed on loan at Blackburn last year.

It remains to be seen what level of competition Cardiff would face for Gallagher given the likes of Aston Villa and Wolves who have been linked with the former Plymouth Argyle youth player.

And despite some claims Southampton would want £7m for Gallagher, the fee is more likely to be around the £3.5m mark.

But it is an indicator that Warnock is keen to give the Bluebirds a greater edge in attack with his transfer business this summer.

The Yorkshireman has made moves to trim Cardiff's wage budget as he seeks the transfer cash to build on his eye-catching start to life in South Wales.

Aberdeen ace Jonny Hayes remains a target , though the Bluebirds will have to fight off interest from Glasgow giants Celtic if they are to land the 29-year-old.

Warnock got up and running in the market this week when Cardiff confirmed the signings of out-of-contract pair Neil Etheridge and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing , two players the Bluebirds chief believes he can develop at the club. Winger Mendez-Laing arrives from Rochdale while Etheridge – who is likely to be one of two keepers signed by Warnock this summer – signs having impressed at Walsall.

Good news if true especially the part about Ledley. We need someone much creative than the water carrier that Joe is.
With regards to Gallagher, whilst not a huge signing, he'll be a very good one and may help sell more season tickets.

I like this.

Our priority must be a striker and a creative, goal-scoring midfielder.
I really don't think we need Joe, who is an older version of Ralls.

If this happens, it'll be epic!

Cardiff set to make Gallagher bid

1st June 2017

Sam Gallagher is believed to be a transfer target for Cardiff City.

According to a report,Neil Warnock is keen to bring the Southampton striker to South Wales.

Gallagher notched 11 goals last season for Blackburn Rovers with Warnock believing that the striker is capable of getting the goals to lead a promotion campaign.

After joining Cardiff in October, Championship specialist Warnock is using every day of the close season to put together a squad capable of pushing for promotion.

With Claude Puel’s position at Southampton under pressure it’s unlikely that a quick decision will be made on Gallagher’s future.

Whoever is in charge will have to decide whether to send the striker out on loan again or cash in after a successful season with Blackburn.

A number of Championship clubs have been linked with Gallagher who failed to score in his previous loan spell with MK Dons.

He was outstanding at our place (Brentford) in the last game of the season, OK we had a youngster playing at left back who had played well in his other five or six games in the first team before but SG ran him ragged, he's got pace and strength in abundance, would love to see him at GP but price wise he's out of our league

Anyway bluebirds always enjoy our games against you and going to be interesting to see if Warnock can push on next season, wouldn't bet against it even with all the so called bigger teams in the championship

Come on you Bees

Sergi Canos from Norwich for £2.5million we had him on loan last season from Liverpool and tried to sign him in the summer but Norwich outbid us, they then hit a bit of financial trouble and we picked him up in January, other than that most of it goes on paying the bills / wages etc to keep a championship level squad, GP only holds 12K, we average around 10K and have no corporate income we have to find good young players who we develop for around the one million mark and then sell on for 5-10million a year or two later, Hogan to Villa, Gray / Tarky to Burnley, Moses to Hull, if Spurs go for Gray we also have a 20% sell on, going be interesting to see if we can keep Jota, he has a year left on his contract and if he don't sign a new one he will go this summer or January we now never let a player run down his contract and leave for free

BTW we had Kadeem Harris at our place on loan during our promotion year from league 1, he was pretty good for us then mainly coming on as a sub and making a difference

Personally think he's highly overrated

11 goals in 40 appearances?? ive not seenan awful lot of him but personally think hes the wrong type of striker, very samey to zohore but not as strong or quick imo. id like to see us get a more nimble quicker striker along the likes of nahki wells (obviously wont get him) or get a number 10 who will chip in with at least double figures

Wells, Campbell type of player. We'll get neither but I totally agree with the above.
Danny Ings on loan?
Perhaps Le fondre would've been good up top with Zohore>?
