A Welsh ex-pat living in Spain has paid £600 to come back home for the Champions League final - Wales Online

Monday 29th May 2017

A Welsh Real Madrid supporter living in Spain has paid more than £600 to come back home for the Champions League final.

Adam Brown, who grew up in Merthyr before moving to Penarth in 1999, has been living in Mijas – an old Spanish town near Marbella – for the past year.

The 38-year-old former Cardiff City supporter has been a huge Real Madrid fan ever since the Bluebirds temporarily changed their home kit colours from the traditional blue, white and yellow to red and black.

And now he's willing to pay above the odds to come back home and watch his team take on Juventus in the Champions League final in Cardiff on Saturday.

It will be the first time recruitment worker Adam has come back to Wales since moving to Spain for work just over a year ago.

Real Madrid fan Adam has been living in Spain for the past year
"I'm absolutely busting for it – not just for the match, but to see my family and friends too," Adam said.

"I was a season ticket holder for Cardiff City for 13 years but as soon as Vincent Tan changed the colour from blue to red I stopped going.

"I always used to watch Spanish football and I eventually started flying over on cheap flights to watch the games.

"My first ever Real Madrid game was when they played Juventus in the Champions League semi-final four years ago."

Adam says he has been to almost every Real Madrid game since – including their recent first La Liga title since 2012 following a victory against Malaga.

But it was after watching Real's semi-final win over Atlético Madrid that Adam decided he would make the journey back to Cardiff.

And he was prepared to pay above the odds to get there.

Adam was willing to pay above the odds to come back to Cardiff
"I had thought about the idea before the semi-final but I didn't want to jinx the outcome of the match by planning the trip before hand.

"But I knew as soon as Real Madrid won that I was going.

"I was unfortunate enough to miss out on the ticket ballot so I paid a little over the top for the tickets.

"I bought them last Friday after a few drinks and paid around £200 for a ticket with a face value of £60.

"But the truth is I really wanted to go.

It is real.

Adam had his reasons for going to Spain and it looks like it is working out for him. I hope it does for him.

Annis - agreed flights are cheaper than quoted

Flying out of Gib for 120 and can get flights for that now - always pay slightly more as restricted on options.

Why did he move to Spain thought he was a trying to be a councillor if I remember that far back ?

He's a media whore. I've known Adam for donkeys years as most will know he's a Merthyr boy the same as me. Adam was a massive Merthyr fan & also liked Everton. He also went to watch City for a few years & now is a Real Madrid fan! He's had more clubs than Tiger Woods.

That'll be a great comfort to the numerous creditors of his UK businesses. 6 years 6 businesses all gone. Only managed to get annual accounts submitted on 2 occasions. That takes some doing. Bull shitter of the decade I'm afraid.

And Ian Woosnam! ;)

Fair do's to Browny though. No one can promote themselves so much with so little to offer!

I wish him all the best though and actually think he's had a decent deal at £200 as I know people who have paid a lot more than that to sit right up the top just to be there! :ayatollah:

Chris, he has two tickets and is looking to sell one at an inflated price to pay for his trip.

Confused as how this is news? Also they make it seem like he's paying £60,000 not £600  I've seen people buying them for upwards of a thousand. £600 isn't bad for a weekend trip and a CL final

I answered the guy who called him a plonker just because of a newspaper report.

I don't know him personally but exchanged a few disagreements in the past on here if I remember correctly. I won't slag him off in his absence on here but his attitude mystifies me. Craves the attention and then kicks off when he gets criticised. What does he expect? Slowing creeping towards Katie Hopkins territory because he only ever seems to approach the press with an inflammatory story to get more exposure. I don't get why people want to do that.

I called him a plonker due to his history on here, his past as a councillor, that ridiculous photo, his words, how he flips from club to club.
Not just the newspaper article, which also makes him out to be a grade A plonker.
