In the 80s us in the military had the nuclear threat rubber stamped on us. My recall is for the average size bomb to drop everyone within a 2 mile radious would be burnt alive. Within 5 miles the blast would kill you unles you toook the measures I explained above. Outside 5 miles you had a chance of surviving providing you seek cover.
