Former Cardiff City striker Rudy Gestede suffers THIRD Premier League relegation in just four seasons at Middlesbrough

Tuesday 10th May 2017

Former Cardiff City striker Rudy Gestede has suffered his third Premier League relegation in four season as Middlesbrough were condemned to the drop after their 3-0 defeat to champions elect Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Steve Agnew's side realistically had to secure all three points against Antonio Conte's men to have any hopes of staying up, but defeat leaves them seven points adrift of safety with only two games left to play.

It means that Benin international Gestede will be playing Championship football with Boro next season if he decides to remain with the club.

But even more worryingly for the striker, it was his third relegation from England's top flight in just four seasons.

He was part of the Cardiff City side - for the first half of the campaign before joining Blackburn - that went down having finished 20th in the 2013-14 campaign and played 36 times - scoring just six goals - as Aston Villa were relegated from the Premier League for the first time in their history in the 2015-16 season.

The 28-year-old forward scored just two goals in 18 appearances for Boro this season after making the £6m switch from Villa Park to the Riverside Stadium during the January transfer window.

Gestede joined the Bluebirds from French outfit Metz in the 2011 summer transfer window, scoring three times in 31 appearances in his debut campaign.

But following Cardiff's relegation from the Premier League in 2014, Gestede left the club to join Blackburn - having had a loan spell at Ewood Park during the 2013-14 season - on a permanent deal.

He scored nine goals in his 63 appearances for Cardiff, playing 27 times as the Bluebirds gained promotion from the Championship in the 2012-13 season.

Blakey got relegated from top division three times too.

I think he is a gamble for any premier league club to take on. 3 relegations show that.

I don't think any of the middle to top premier clubs will take him on. Perhaps the clubs coming up will look at him but that is about it.

He's a poor man's Kenneth Zohore!

Rudy seems to be one of those strikers who can be quite prolific in the Championship but can't seem to make it in the Premier League.

David Nugent is another that comes to mind as well as a couple of strikers well known to us, Earnie and Fraiser Campbell.

Any others anyone can think of?

He's not good enough for that level, and it's shocking that Boro even signed him in first place.
