Cardiff City already close to four signings
By Adam Allcroft

07th May 2017

Cardiff City head coach Neil Warnock has told BBC Sport that is already close to signing four players for the club.

The Bluebirds ended their season today on a high after they thumped Sky Bet Championship play-off contenders Huddersfield Town 3-0 thanks to a brace from Joe Bennett as well as one from Kenneth Zohore. But in reality, Cardiff’s season had been over for a while as thanks to Warnock, Cardiff had managed to avoid a relegation battle but hadn’t done well enough to get involved in a battle for the play-offs.

This has obviously given Warnock a lot of time to prepare for next season and it seems like they are set to get a massive head start on their rivals. When talking in the post-match press conference after the game with Huddersfield, Warnock revealed that they are very close to sealing deals for four different players. However he did later reveal it might take a while to sort some of these transfers out.

Warnock said: “I’ve agreed a couple of fringe players but I’m looking to sign three or four players to add to that squad in the next few weeks,”

“It might be the beginning of June because you can’t really move that quick nowadays but it won’t be for lack of trying.

“I think we could get three or four players in that squad in the team, I think the future is very bright.”

When asked about Cardiff’s situation when he took charge compared to now, he added: “When you go to a club that were second from bottom, it’s fair to say when I arrived, it wasn’t a very good situation,”

“I had interviews at Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers so today I just wonder what they’re thinking because I had good interviews but they went elsewhere.”

“That is Cardiff’s gain, really. I’m enjoying every minute of it. The fans have been fabulous and I think I’ve turned the club around.”

Probably at least one of the signings is a goalkeeper and that is likely to be Neil Etheridge if reports are true. Generally contracts expire at the end of June which might explain the reference to that month.

Great to hear that NW is so well advanced in his plans and goes to show how much you gain from having a manager who has multiple contacts in the game.

We were so lucky to get him and a big thank-you to both Blackburn and Nottingham F  for taking other options ;)
