The moment the entire city of Newport erupted as fans storm pitch amid joyous scenes at final whistle

Newport County fans are going to have an unbelievable weekend

This was the remarkable moment Newport County fans stormed the Rodney Parade pitch in utter delight after their team dramatically secured their Football League status.

County were facing oblivion with just two minutes left as they were drawing 1-1 with Notts County and relegation rivals Hartlepool took a 2-1 lead against Doncaster.

Those results would have seen them relegated from League Two on goal difference, but Mark O'Brien's 89th minute volley turned it all around amid stunning scenes.

And, as the final whistle blew shortly afterwards, the County faithful made their way onto the pitch, loudly chanting "We are staying up, we are staying up!".

Fan favourite player David Pipe was mobbed and manager Michael Flynn joined the celebrations, which knew no bounds.

It provided a fitting final act to a truly incredible Welsh football story, with the Exiles seemingly doomed just weeks ago as they found themselves 11 points from safety.

But, under the leadership of hometown hero Flynn, they completed Mission Impossible in front of 7,000 delirious supporters.

How many times have you heard this? ........just 10 years ago they nearly dropped out of the football league altogether on the last game of the season and now look at them....going up to the premier league! Lol you can almost hear someone in the future saying it!

But fair play....they've made a massive comeback over the last couple of months.

not really. their club is in turmoil and has been for a while. the chairman resigned this week and is pools fans public enemy number 1,number2 ,3 and 4.

Dave Jones took the job on 'knowing' the situation and he oversaw the playing side of things, so 100% culpable!

Jones won something like 8 out of 36 games, yes DJ takes the blame, Hartlepool fans say that he destroyed the players that were there and thats what happened at Cardiff.
