Cardiff City to Sign Walsall goalkeeper Neil Etheridge??

HITC

Friday 5th May 2017

Cardiff City will look to sign goalkeeper Neil Etheridge when his current deal with Walsall expires in the summer, according to reports.

Neil Warnock has previously stated that a deal to sign Scot Allan McGregor - currently on loan from Premier League side Hull - on a permanent basis is unlikely due to financial reasons.

Ben Amos is also expected to return to newly-promoted Bolton having made just 16 appearances during his season-long loan with the Bluebirds.

And HITC are reporting that Cardiff are hoping to recruit former Charlton and Fulham shot stopper Etheridge on a free deal when the summer transfer window opens.

The 27-year-old has been a regular in the Walsall side, making 43 appearances for the club this season as the Saddlers finished 14th in League One.

The Chelsea youth product has won 53 caps for the Philippines and has previously has spells with Bristol Rovers, Crewe and Oldham.

Good keeper with a good reputation. Physical and a good shot stopper.

Offered a new three year deal by Walsall and a number of other clubs interested.

Sure he can make the step up to the Championship.

To sign and being linked are two different meanings!

Cardiff eye move for Walsall's Neil Etheridge

HITC Sport understands Cardiff are lining up a move for the Walsall goalkeeper.

Walsall's Neil Etheridge

Cardiff City are closing in on the signing of Walsall goalkeeper Neil Etheridge on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Former Fulham and Charlton man Etheridge is available on a free transfer with his contract at Walsall expiring this summer.

Walsall are keen on keeping the Philippines international and have offered him a new three-year deal, but Cardiff are ready to offer Etheridge to move up from League One to the Championship next season.

Etheridge has impressed during his two seasons at Walsall keeping 12 clean sheets in 41 League One games this term and he has established himself as one of the best keepers in the Football League.

Cardiff are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements this summer as the goalkeeper spot has been a problematic position for Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock.

Warnock brought in Allan McGregor on loan from Hull during the January transfer window, but Warnock has conceded he will not be able to turn the Scotland international's loan move into a permanent deal.

Cardiff are planning to bring in two new keepers this summer with Ben Amos due to return to Bolton Wanderers and Warnock is hoping to tie up a move for Etheridge as he plans to reshape his squad ahead of next season.

Not bad I guess. was hoping for a name like Ruddy, Hennessey, Marshall or even tomasz kuszczak. but maybe they are out of our price range. I can defo see Lee Camp joining as well.

If we're not able to sign one of those first four you mention I'd like to see Murphy being given a decent go.

No word of a lie , I seen David Marshall driving through Llanishen today. Probably just sorting the sale of his house out or something? He was driving a white Mercedes

Disappointing that McGregor wouldn't take a pay cut, 3rd choice and has more chance of first team football here with his career coming to an end.
