POMPEY HAVE ENQUIRED ABOUT EX PREMIER STRIKER

Football League

By Hayden Atkin

Thursday 4th May 2017

It’s been a decent campaign for Cardiff City in the Championship but Neil Warnock will be hoping to guide his side to a potential play off position next season, rather than battling it out with the other relegation scrappers.

Neil Warnock has come in and done an excellent job at the club having arrived when the team were really flirting in the relegation zone and moving ahead, there should be a real buzz of optimism at the Cardiff City Stadium.

There are some good players on the books in South Wales these days and with a strong pre-season campaign and some more additions over the summer months, City should be flying with the best of them next season.

But there’s one man that is unlikely to be a part of any real success next season and that’s former Liverpool man Rickie Lambert, who has struggled for first-team minutes this season.

He was brought in to fire the goals in for the Bluebirds but it really hasn’t happened for him and he’s a player that should certainly be thinking about a move away, especially with his contract expiring at the end of next season.

And one side we think would certainly benefit from bringing in the former Liverpool man is Portsmouth, who have been promoted back to League One and have even enquired about a loan move for the striker.

There’s hope that with a takeover edging ever-closer they’ll be able to really reinforce the squad over the coming months to prepare for a Premier League push, which will happen ideally sooner rather than later.

Lambert is a man that scores goals, knows these divisions well and works hard and could still score goals in say the lower football leagues.

He’d be a great fit for a club like Portsmouth.

Would you let Rickie Lambert go or even out on loan provided the other club pays at least 50% of his £25,000 a week wages?

I certainly would :thumbright: :bluebird:

I thought when he was starting he was doing a decent job, Warnock keeps saying he isn't fit but puts him on the bench.

I think Warnock just doesn't want him. Would £12500 a week get us a better striker

Yes we got no chance of selling him and after a (hopefully) successful transfer window he'll be nowhere near the first team so I think a loan with a % of his wages paid is the best we can hope for.

Another amazing bit of business by our Club. I wonder when our Club will stop making these stupid signings. Who sanctions them ? :o

Would not be a bad move for the ex-England international, then he can experience League 1, he already probably already experienced it before but it would be a great season for him to keep up the fitness and goal scoring record

The only chance we have of getting some of our money back is to let him go out on loan until January (with us no doubt subsidising a big % of his wages) and hopefully if he scores a few goals and keeps fit someone might take a chance on him in the January window and we might get a small fee for him.

Can't see Pompey wanting such a famous ex-Saint player. They hate him. Can't imagine Lambert wanting that kind of grief at the end of his career either.

i do understand the frustration because im frustrated myself at some of our signings. but for me the managers got to take the lions share of blame. the club appoints football experts{ managers} and have then backed them. thats exactly what i want them to do .if Warnock is convinced we need player x at 20k a week.back him.
there really are no gaurentees in football so what if player x flops?..blame tan for saying yes?
will also add that at some clubs there is a head coach not a manager, and the head coach has little to do with recruitment .

same one who sanction the ones like Zohore.

you cant blame the club for backing Trollope after appointing him as clearly his choice. you could blame them for appointing him but it happens.

for all the positives coming from the club people seem to go on about the ones negative an awful lot especially on here.

After all of the financial issues at Portsmouth in recent years there is no way they are going to pay £12,500 a week for a striker, especially one who is injury prone.

I still think there is a role for Lambert at Cardiff, but I very much doubt we will get our money's worth. But if he chips in with the odd late winner from the subs bench that could be vital too.

Point the finger all you want Nukes but Trollope wanted Lambert the minute he took over and was his number 1 priority, the board delivered? Trollope is the main person to blame.
