A Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick gave Los Blancos a commanding first leg lead over Atletico
Cristiano Ronaldo struck a stunning hat-trick to put Real Madrid on the verge of claiming a place in Cardiff's Champions League final next month.
Ronaldo scored three times to help Zinedine Zidane's side to a brilliant victory over Madrid rivals Atletico.
The 3-0 scoreline means Diego Simeone's side have a mountain to climb if they want to book their place in the Welsh capital.
Atletico will need to score four at the Calderon after failing to find a way past Keylor Navas at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Former Manchester United man Ronaldo claimed the limelight again, with his two late goals all-but killing Atleico's hopes of coming to Cardiff.
For Bale, it's now a case of reclaiming his fitness if he wants to feature in the final at the Principality Stadium on June 3.
Bale hobbled off during El Classico with a calf problem that compounded a miserable season for the Welshman in terms of injuries.
He will miss the second leg against Atletico but is due to return just before the Cardiff final.
