Bruno Manga: Cardiff City optimistic defender could stay with the club

Cardiff City have stepped up negotiations to keep defender Bruno Ecoule Manga at the club.


The Gabon international's contract ends this summer and is yet to sign a new deal with the Championship side.

BBC Wales Sport has learned that Manga has attracted interest from Turkish club Bursaspor.

There is now more optimism at the club that the 28-year-old may choose to remain in the Welsh capital despite being offered a deal on reduced terms.

Manga joined Cardiff from French club L'Orient in September 2014 for a fee of almost £5m.

Though he has had his fitness problems - including a bout of malaria - while at Cardiff, he has been a defensive mainstay.

It had been thought that after being asked to take a pay cut Manga would most likely choose to leave Cardiff.

Indeed Bluebirds' boss, Neil Warnock, admitted recently he already had a replacement lined up for Manga.

But after further talks in the last few days, there is now more optimism he will stay with negotiations set to continue this week.

If Manga remains, he would provide a major boost to manager Neil Warnock as he revamps his Championship squad for next season.

On Friday, Cardiff announced striker Kenneth Zahore had agreed a new deal with the Bluebirds to remain with the club until 2020.

Stalwart midfielder Peter Whittingham is still mulling over his options having also been asked to take a pay cut to stay.

Still a way to go but (considering the wages exodus of recent times) it would appear the club are backing the manager and he is backing the players he feels can do a job next season!

I would be surprised if we kept Manga, would show some intent though.

Hope this is true. Manga and Bamba at the back would be an awesome combination and one on which a realistic challenge for play off place at least could be build.

Would like to keep Whitts as well but not sure how much of that is sentiment.

What is shocking is that we may lose both because we have at least four players signed by previous managers that we don't want on around £80K a week between them. £4 million a year. That's works out to approximately all the season ticket money on 4 players we don't want. Scandalous.

Luke, Manga apparently making the right noises but seems his Agent may have other ideas. New contract with a 12-month 'get-out' clause might be good all round, as by then we'll know whether the club are moving forward or treading water again

He likes Neil Warnock and likes living in Wales. Just down to money, I think

Please, please let it be true and he stays. Him and Ken signing new contracts would be the best bit of business by far.

Yeah perhaps it wouldn't surprise me and it wouldn't bother me if he did go he is an average championship defender and I think if Bruno stays Warnock would want him to partner with Bamba at the back and what a centre half pairing that would be.

You may well be on to something.Can play well and is a nuisance to the opposition on set pieces but makes too many mistakes for me usually costing us a goal.

I would try very hard to try and keep Bruno, even if a few more have to be released to free up some money
