Are some people obsessed with going on holiday?

Mon May 01, 2017 2:37 pm

Now don't get me wrong a couple of times away a year either in the uk or once abroad or something but people seem to have gone mad with holidays lately! A few of my friends and work colleagues literally go away 3-4 times a year and that's without counting doing lots of other luxuries too! I guess I could count my season ticket and an away match every now and then a one holiday equivalent but I can think of one person who may go to say Australia in January for 3 weeks, then Far East come September and perhaps a couple of holidays to Spain in between all in the same years, then the next year off they go again....January.....Mexico, April - Portugal, September Dubai and so on and so forth. I mean if that's what people like doing than fair enough but just seems abit extreme? Or am I the only sad one who doesn't lol

Max for me would be a week away with the dog and family in the uk! (Wouldn't go abroad and leave my dog!) lol :ayatollah:
I'm not saying that people shouldn't enjoy themselves and travel etc but 4 holidays abroad per year......where on earth to people get the money from?

If I could afford it I would go 3/4 times as well!

I know, I get it why some people do it! And ESP if they can afford it! It's nice to explore, have a change of scenery and completely get away and somewhere warm too! And I've got nothing against people doing it - it just seems lately like some people are planning their next holiday or 2 before they've enjoyed the current one! Lol
Perhaps people think I'm odd and obsessed with football and can't understand why I spend money on such thing so fair enough if that's what they want then so be it! I know one of my colleagues - there isn't really many places they haven't been! It's like name a place and they've been there! Lol
Personally I'm abit of a home bird so that doesn't help! My other half is the same luckily and is not that bothered about going away that often so just as well lol!

Love going away tbh.

There was a time a few years ago when I was going abroad 4-5 times a year plus loads of little breaks here and there, for me its what I live for and I don't know what else there is to spend money on.

I don't care much for a big house, expensive cars, a new TV every year or whatever, I'm comfortable staying in 3 weekends a month to have one weekend where I go somewhere, I know people who don't go anywhere, find it really bizzare, especialy in this day and age but we are all different, each to their own I guess.

Some are obsessed with going on holiday in the same way that others are obsessed with going to watch their team play home & away every week. It's all about what's important to the individual at that moment in their life. Like yourself I was more of a home bird & 1 holiday abroad a year was more than enough for me when I lived in Wales and was happy to just stay home during my other holidays relaxing but some don't feel they've had a holiday if they haven't gone abroad.

I try to have 2 main holidays abroad a week each and try to fit in a city break somewhere. Also enjoy long weekends in britain a couple of times a year. it's all relative to what you want to do with your money, some people smoke and have 2 or 3 Starbucks a day in my works and spend a fortune eating out at lunch times, add up what they spend a week and a month on that and it soon adds up. I'd rather keep my money for holidays.

I got people in my office who moan they cant afford a holiday then go and spend a fiver a day on the 'sandwich man' and £2-3 on a coffee on their way in. Absolutely bonkers the lot of them.

I used to have a top of the range VW Golf VR6 every 2 yrs when I was younger. Lots of the lads couldn't understand how I could afford it until I sat 2 of them down and worked out they would be on the piss every weekend spending £100-200 each weekend.

The penny dropped so I know where you're coming from.

Off to New Zealand for the Lions Tour. Wouldn't normally chase the egg, but thought, as I'm approaching 50 in a couple of years, that I'd get it in now before old age restricts me- if you know what I mean. 5 Provincial Games and 2 Tests. And on my return I shall be spending a few days in each of the following Cities: Bali, Manilla, Bangkok, Singapore and Dubai- to sample the Culture.

For me life is all about experiences, especially when your young. We've got all our lives to own a nice car etc But your only guna be able to party and shag your way around the world whilst your young. Travelling is essential for growth and understanding different cultures can teach many life lessons. Almost all my expendable income goes on holidays and travelling and I know when I look back on my death bed that I won't regret a fookin thing!

Always admire people who do the backpacking holiday, and l can see the value of living like the locals, but people who jump on a plane then on to the holiday companies bus straight to the all inclusive hotel for two weeks of lying on a sun bed and eating and drinking till they feel they've had their monies worth never leaving the hotel for fear of having to spend extra money on food and drink only to return home and then getting out a map to find out were they've been so they can tick off another country visited we all know them don't we
