Great idea at lower levels but unworkable in championship due to contacts from premiership and the parachute payments? To much money involved now at championship level. :old:

A wage cap IN the Premier would be much more appropriate!! Maybe it would help overhyped prima donnas understand the value of money a little more.

Way too late now.

It would take every single club in football to get together and put in hefty wage caps and then totally revamp their squads with youngsters.

Unless everyone is in it would not work and I mean Europe and worldwide.

As I said, too late.

That would take the power of money out of the equation and leave nothing to the mega rich owner

surely a wage cap would both ensure clubs dont find themselves with huge debts but also financially benefit the owners.?

Your right and I'm not disagreeing with you but the wealthy owner doesn't want a level playing field or what good would his money be.

Not really. The Premier League and the Championship to a certain extent only get the sponsorship and attract the money into the game it does because of the calibre of player it can attract. It can only attract that level of player because the wages they pay make it one of the most competitive top class leagues in Europe. With a salary cap, players who ditch the Premier League for La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and even Serie A would get the overflow. Sponsorship would go down or even some avenues comoletely diminish and clubs who have relied on these payments for years would crumble over night.

It is a self feeding monster. Stop the food and the moster dies, unfortunately that moster is now football in general.

Its a free market economy, and when the bubble bursts and the bubble will burst, there will be a lot of skint clubs and creditors.

Some sort of capping structure should be implemented to stop clubs paying what they cannot afford.

The NFL model works because there is no other top level American Football league to compete with.

Some of the best players are in the Prem yes. Pogba, Hazard, Zlatan, Coutinho, Costa, Sanchez, Aguero, De Bruyne etc etc almost none would be over here if the FA adopted a salary cap. For it to worl it would have to be global, and that will never happen.

as i said depends how its done. and how much the cap was set at.
yes those 8 players are top tier but as a league is the EPL the best?. i dont think so. and infact Uefa dont think so either.
wont happen because the big clubs dont want it. or in fact do the various FAs or UEFA want anyone bar the big clubs qualifying for European competitions. but something better than FFP is needed.

Yes Premier league is the best. They dont have the best teams in Europe, that goes to Real, Barca and Munich but as a league the Premier league is far superior. I would be happy to wager that if there was one giant super league of all the top leagues. The Premier league would have the highest average finishing position even though it would not have a team that wins the league.

I agree with you that a cap is needed in some form, but it isnt implementable without football as a whole suffering in which ever league adopts the cap. I don't see any way a global cap would happen. It leaves the door open for the likes of the Chinese league to prosper and you would just get all the best talent going there than here. Footballers are mercenaries.

Thats where the "would" comes into play rather than the "will". I think the calibre of player outside the top 6 of any league is obviously steonger in the Premier League doggy, it doesn't take a an entry into MENSA.

Go back to the likes of the 60s/70s where everyone had a basic wage plus bonuses if you won/drew....and only if you play or on bench.
