Up to 6,000 Cardiff v Newcastle away tickets now on sale to general public

The Cardiff v Newcastle match is the last away game of the season for the Magpies.

With so much potentially riding on the game, the title and/or automatic promotion, the demand for away tickets was always going to be high.

Last month saw claims that Newcastle had asked for 10,000 tickets and that Cardiff were going to try and make 8,000 available.

When ticket details were then announced, Newcastle stated that 3,400 tickets had ‘initially’ been allocated.

Two weeks ago though many Cardiff City season ticket holders receive a letter (extract reproduced below) which explains that they will have to move to accommodate Newcastle fans.

The letter states that fans are being moved due to safety concerns, with Newcastle fans guaranteed to be in the home sections if demand can’t be satisfied.

Cardiff fans have been informed that instead of the usual 2,200 away allocation, there are up to around 6,000 places allocated to Newcastle supporters if the demand is there.

Therefore, Cardiff City are telling these season ticket holders that they will be offered alternative seats, with both the Safety Advisory Group and South Wales Police backing the decision.

Today’s Newcastle United have made available tickets to the general public, so any NUFC fans wanting to buy a ticket for Cardiff can now do so – not just members and season ticket holders, so the platform is in place for Rafa’s team to have the backing of 6,000 travelling fans for the final away game, if the demand is there (Newcastle United themselves have not publicly acknowledged that up to 6,000 tickets are available and are still just stating that they were ‘initially allocated 3,400’).

Letter sent by Cardiff City to season tickets holders:

‘Dear Season Ticket Holder,

As you are aware this season’s final home game is versus Newcastle United.

The demand for away tickets for this fixture could greatly exceed the capacity available in our normal away section and with capacity available around the ground there is legitimate concern over away fans buying tickets in home areas for what could be a crucial fixture for our visitors.

Discussions have therefore been held with the Safety Advisory Group and South Wales Police and it has been decided to attempt to satisfy the demand for travelling supporters by potentially increasing the away ticket allocation from 2,200 to maximum of c6,000

The increase will be achieved by extending the away sector into blocks 123, and possibly 124 and (part of) 125 of the Family Stand and we apologise that this contingency may result in your possible relocation for this fixture….

NUFC official update (on Tuesday 18 April 2017) on away tickets for Cardiff v Newcastle:

Tickets for Newcastle’s final away game of the season, at Cardiff City, are now on general sale.

The Magpies were initially allocated around 3,400 tickets for the Friday night fixture, which will kick off at 7.45pm on 28th April.

Tickets are priced at £24 for adults, £20 for over-60s, £15 for 16 to 21-year-olds and £12 for under-16s. Ambulant disabled tickets are the same price but with carers free of charge. Any supporters under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Family area tickets are also available but these are limited and supporters must call the Box Office.

They are priced at £18 for adults, £12 for over-60s, £10 for 16 to 21-year-olds and £5 for under-16s while a family ticket (two adults and two juniors) costs £40.

I know a lot of points about cash,etc have been touched on before but why should they have an advantage that other teams that might be challenging for promotion not have ?

We should have done something for our fans in this fixture! Try to get the ground full! 2 x free tickets for season ticket holders etc. Like at the end of last season! 6000 geordies will make us feel like the away side!

Newcastle have never brought the numbers like Sunderland and Sheff Wed to us

Seem to remember when we were in the premier league they bought less than United Liverpool Arsenal and a few others

They never sold out.

So in the end it's going to be easier for their fans to buy a ticket for their game down here than it was for us to get one at theirs
