WARNOCK: "WE WANT TO GET AS MANY POINTS AS WE CAN"

By Cardiff City FC

Tuesday 18th April 2017

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock spoke to the press and media following an Easter Monday victory over Nottingham Forest, with Aron Gunnarsson’s goal settling the tie.

“I'm delighted,” began the City boss. “I know people say we have nothing to play for, but I told the lads to have pride in their performance today.

"The Championship is a hard league, an unforgiving league. You have to be on your mettle nearly every week.

"I thought there was a lot of positivity, but I did say that there would only be one goal in it. It had that feeling in it. I thought they came to have a go, as well."

Although the Bluebirds are certain of a mid-table finish this season, Warnock was keen to stress the importance of ending on a high, and also highlighted the significance of squad rotation.

“You can say there's nothing at stake, but we want to get as many points as we can.

"Today one or two of the players came back in, like Peltier. We gave him an hour, and I thought he did really well. Now I know he'll be ready for pre-season, so there's no need to rush him now.

"There were a lot of other plusses. I tried to get Mark Harris on today, but couldn't quite do it. But there are still three games left, so hopefully we can give him some game time at some stage.”

The gaffer also praised Fans Man of the Match and game-winner Aron Gunnarsson, whose superb strike from the edge of the box was the difference between the two sides.

“It was a cracking finish. He usually whacks the pigeon on top of the stand when he shoots like that, but the goalkeeper had no chance. It just looked like a missile the way it went in.

"It was a great celebration, he's a great lad. A very important part of the squad, but I think he can do even better.

"We're trying to get more from the wide players too. We need more competition for places, improve the squad and have more choices.”

I totally agree too. Gunnar is always organising and talking to the players and he's usually the first to question the ref where Morrison rarely bothers. But I think if NW gives the captaincy to someone else, it'll be Bamba.

I find this obsession with the captaincy bazaar.

Does he even want it. There's more to it than the 90 mins on the pitch, does he want to be our ambassador with all added the media stuff ?

During a game you always see Whitts chatting to the ref, trying to influence, or Gunnar's slightly more demonstrative "chats" with the officials. You don't need a captain on the field when I am sitting in DD of the Ninian and can hear Warnock screaming blue fcuking murder !!!!!

We don't have a Kav or Hudson to own the dressing room by the looks of it, but I am sure Warnock will find one for next season. Or, Perhaps Morrison is that person but quiet on the pitch.

Some good points there. I also found it bazaar when Trollope opted for Morrison as Gunner was returning from doing wonders with Iceland at the Euros and seemed the nailed on best choice :?

I would like to see him as captain, but your right he may not want it with any additional media work and other exposure. On his twitter account he makes the point he only tweets in Icelandic. He has a good balance at the moment between us and captaining his country. Being skipper of both may be too much and take away from his game.

if he is looking for something to play for its 63 points.
would be the most any championship club has achieved off an 8 points from 11 game start.
