The striker situation

Rickie Lambert makes the bench today, but it’s been a poor season by the former Liverpool striker’s standards.

With Rhys Healey a long-term injury absence as well, Neil Warnock has admitted he’ll go after forward options in the summer.

As expected, it’s a more solid team selection from Neil Warnock, clearly wary of the numerous threats posed by Sheffield Wednesday.

As usual the Owls go with 4-4-2 — and what a bench they boast too, with the likes of Rhodes, Forestieri and McManaman top performers at this level.

For the Bluebirds it’s good to see Lee Peltier back in the fray on one of the strongest benches Cardiff have fielded for weeks. Harris and Hoilett will have to cut inside and offer support for lone striker Zohore.

The big talking point is obviously Whittingham’s omission and the inclusion of Greg Halford instead. Halford will sit in front of the back four with Gunnarsson and Ralls providing energy and industry beside him.
