Bus Lane Fines Warning! (Any advice?)

Wed Apr 12, 2017 3:06 pm

I have got back to back fines for turning into Carpet Right Car Park in Newport Road £35 each for the 22nd and 23rd of April! £70 each if I do not pay within 21 days! Must have thrned just before the arrow!

I rang Carpet Right and the Manager has been done too! If you turn in before the arrow your done! I had 5 more days going that way but not sure how many more can I get! Might have just done it twice not sure.

The lady at Carpet right said that there is an almost invisible no entry sign by the car park entrance! Never noticed! Might take a picture tomorrow!

Should I appeal or pay? I see them doing people all the time with the speed camera's there at the lights but this is a real trap!

I've just had a look on google maps and I don't think you've got a chance of getting off IMO.Very poor no entry sign I agree but its Carpet rights sign and I don't suppose they are under any obligation to keep it in good condition. No consultation for you but I would have been done in the same way so thanks for the heads up.Bastards!!!

Don't think you'd have a leg to stand on you've crossed over a solid white line. Assuming this is the entrance your referring to.

I work for carpet right and I can tell you the sign is nothing to do with carpet right and the sign has been reported as it is barely visible. However there is a solid white line that has been repainted since they put the camera up so you haven't got a leg to stand on. Always seeing cars rushing through the car park to try and beat the lights and often have nearly been hit by cars!

It is always worth appealing and use any evidence to push your case, including the poorly maintained no entry sign. Mind you seeing as the dates of these 'offences' are 9 days in the future (22/23 April) maybe that would be your best defence ;)

Finally if the fine is from the Council then pay it if you fail with your appeal, if it is from a Private Firm file it in the nearest rubbish bin.

I think you can pay, to prevent cost rising, and then appeal - check the wording on the notice.

If the signage is wrong or unclear you may have a chance of fine being quashed - take photos if safe to do so

When I appealed the council for a parking ticket they stop the days you have to pay the smaller fine so until you know the outcome of your appeal you can still pay the lower amount.

Luke, you are correct. I appealed a parking ticket near Newport and they suspended any further increase until the appeal was heard

The very unusual circumstances in my case meant the appeal was successful and I would suggest the OP writes to the appropriate authority with all the facts and circumstances involved, if he feels they are unjust

The worst thing that can happen initially is that he ends up paying the amount already levied (assuming he responds within permitted timescalses) :ayatollah:

Half the bus lanes in Cardiff cause more problems that they solve.
The one on Southern Way is constantly empty with traffic queueing over the flyover and right down Newport's Rd, Rover Way and Lamby Way.

Also one on Llantrisant Rd which should be a 'left hand turn' lane.
It's split due to the turn into the BBC studios , its confusing and chaotic.

Agree it doesn't hurt to appeal. If anything else it gives you time to find the money required to pay the fine fine if you fail the appeal.

I thought so too but on thinking theres solid white lines on the new Caerphilly Road bus lanes and yet on the other side of said lane there are parking spaces and you have to cross the white line to park.Taking that into account if the council argues that the OP committed the offence and made an illegal turn into was a no entry zone then in his defence the state of that no entry sign would come into play.If the OP thought he was not commiting any offence because the sign wasn't fit for purpose he may have a chance. I've only seen the sign on google maps but it doesn't look fit for purpose to me.

Just like those speed cameras on the lights it is there solely to make money out of the drivers pocket. Not safety not to reduce speed or for keeping the bus lanes clear for those polluting busses. It's a money making SCAM by the council and is highway robbery. Even whilst driving with total care the chances of getting fined for something is extremely high.
Wish someone would appeal then if they win those that have been caught in the past could all claim back. And that is one reason why they will never find in your favour unless you have a very canny lawyer but that would cost the earth. And they no that the same with football banning orders they know the average man won't risk appealing because the fear of losing.
But if you do good luck fella and hope you win.

Just walked from the Central Station to the game. On Tudor Road, I noticed that there is a solid white bus lane line on the left turn into Tudor Lane (opposite the Texaco garage). Theresa May be worth getting a shot of that, if the argument is that you can't cross the white line.
