Former Cardiff City boss Russell Slade set for Grimsby Town job
By Ian Mitchelmore
Tuesday 11th April 2017
It will be the ex-Cardiff manager's third job of the season
Former Cardiff City boss Russell Slade is set to be announced as the new manager of Grimsby Town.
The 56-year-old took charge of the Bluebirds 86 times between October 2014 and May 2016, leaving the club with a win percentage of 37.2%.
Following his spell in the Welsh capital, Slade joined Charlton Athletic but left after just 21 games with the club.
He endured an even more unsuccessful stint at League One strugglers Coventry City, seeing his side win just three times in 16 games before being sacked.
But he is now set to return to the dugout once again, this time with League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
The Mariners have today announced that they will hold a press conference at Blundell Park at 10am tomorrow morning, with the club expected to announce Slade as their new boss following the sacking of Marcus Bignot.
A club statement read: "Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that we will be holding a press conference at Blundell Park from 10am Wednesday morning (12th April)."

He had a good spell at Grimsby a decade or do ago and did a good job with no money whatsoever. Fans are not looking forward to his boring style of football though

Finally a bit of sense. We would probably be a League 1 club now if Slade hadn't come in to steady the ship. We only had 2 defeats at home in Slade's one and only full season with us.
Slade had no chance whatsoever in his next 2 jobs after us, having to put up with crazy owners at Charlton and having nothing to work with at Coventry. With all of Coventry's off field issues, Slade still got them to a cup final.
Of course, back then, Trollope was the reason we won and Slade was the reason we lost. But when Slade moved on and Trollope was put in charge, we suddenly realised how well Slade actually did for us. Well, at least the reasonable fans who understand football (a small percentage of our fan base) noticed how well Slade did.

If a football hit you in the back of the head, your response would be "who's there"..

Some of the abuse slade gets is unnecessary imo. Yes the football was shite and absolutely dire at times but he managed to get us finishing 8th with no budget and being told to get rid of players.
Didn't he also win his first 6 or 7 home games with us when he first took over from Ole. He probably saved us from League 1 in his first season
But again the football was complete shite
