Jay Bothroyd sticks the boot in

The former Arsenal trainee has given the Gunners both barrels

Tuesday 11th April 2017

Former Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd was one of the many to stick the boot into Arsenal last night.

In fact, it was less of a boot and more of a two-footed lunge as the Gunners lost 3-0 to relegation-threatened Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

It was described as a defeat that ends managerial reins by some and the manner of the performance has been described as gutless and feeble.

And the former Arsenal trainee waded in with his own views on Arsene Wenger's side with a four-tweet rant.

"Arsenal need a complete clearout. By the way, how many men are going to try that captain's armband on? Arsenal just thought they could turn up and win #joke," he tweeted.

"No other club in the world would accept these kind of performances! There is just no improvement season after season and that's ok! #weak.

"The difference between top clubs and Arsenal now, Arsenal want to win but Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and even Tottenham now have to win.

"Only Arsenal tolerate failure! It's disgusting! Who will go to Arsenal next year? They don't pay like the rest of the Premier League's top teams and don't win!"

Fairly conclusive stuff from the England international and he wasn't alone in his criticism.

Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was among the first to say it how it is about Arsenal during his analysis on Monday Night Football.

Jay Bothroyd tweets about Arsenal
“Forget top four, it shouldn’t have anything to do with it for Arsenal - go for trophies, not top four.

“They’ve lost some thing special that they used to have. Graeme Souness said it best when he said they’re a team of son in laws. Who would want their daughter dating one of them?”

"Would you want that type of man for your daughter? Cowards, ducking out of challenges?! From top to bottom, this club is not right."

I like Jay but it's a bit rich coming from him talking about "ducking out of challenges"... Has he forgotten about the Reading play-off game? I haven't.

Perhaps he could have also been a bit more "committed" in the Play-Off Final rather than having us rely on Kelvin Etuhu for most of the game?

Harsh - lad was injured - are you honestly suggesting he wouldnt have wanted to play on in the biggest game of his life if he genuinely thought he could have?
