Did I see the captain putting his fingers to his lips and "sushing" the crowd when he scored today?

Perhaps he feels that he's been getting some unfair stick recently and wanted to make a point - I've no problem with that and it was a great, powerful header.

It tended to confirm what tends to confuse many - namely how he can be such a threat in the opposition box but frequently gets outjumped and outmuscled in our own box.

For me I think it helps that he is always attacking the ball in the opposition box and is able to time his jump properly whereas in our own box he is normally reacting to crosses and can often be caught flat footed and outjumped by opposition players who are themselves attacking the ball.

Well that's my theory anyway. He did well today but I'd still prefer to start next season with Bamba and Manga at centre back.

Not how a captain should behave if true but then he hasn't got a history of behaving well.

Totally agree with your post.

i hope not, but you could well be right.
real shame he has been made to feel that way, not the first player either.

I don't see how a centre back scoring goals for us should prove a point. He should concentrate on cutting down his defensive errors. He was once again caught flat footed for Brentford's goal, failing to react to cut out the cross, although Gunnarsson should have never allowed him to cross in the first place either.
