I was in Newport yesterday morning and passed by where Somerton Park once was and was saddened to see ALL traces are now gone and have been replaced by a housing estate. At least with Ninian Park our club kept the front gates but I couldn't see anything like that.

I could recall many County / City matches back in the 80's but there was an evening back in May 1977 which I will always remember. These were the days when there was no automatic relegation and clubs had to reapply for membership of the Football League if they finished in the bottom 4 of the then fourth division.

That season County were in a similar position and won their last 5 games which eventually took them above the bottom four, their last match was against Workington at Somerton Park and thanks to many thousands of Cardiff fans turning up to support them they won the game 1-0 and finished 19th. That season County averaged less than 3k for a home game but that evening there were over 8k in the ground.

I wonder if there is any chance of history repeating itself should County be in a position to save themselves in their final home game. In these days would 4k Cardiff fans care enough to support a fellow Welsh club :?

as for the home games,my mate went to watch against Luton and reckons the pitch is their biggest problem.
