" To laid back/Lazy or simply past it? "
Loved watching Whitts over the last 10 years or so, but he frustrated me terribly today. Looked like he was playing the attacking midfield role ( I'm no manager, so I guess what would I know) but his body language and speed of play led me to believe he thinks his future is elsewhere.
Too slow on the ball, never once busted a gut, lost possession a number of times when we were in great positions, and always let the opposition come on to him ( and invariably get past him).
A magical player in his time, and a City legend who should get a benefit match, but time for him to be a big fish in a small pond...... Would be good in league 1 and excellent in league 2.
Oth thoughts today, poor in first half, no energy or real commitment, second half, much better with a good 15 minute spell after half time. Zohore looked knackered, Bennett too, and Hoilett looked like he was playing on with an injury.
Fair do's to Brentford, they didn't look like they were at the beach, wanted to go for it, and get three points. Pretty team to watch, but I think we made them look like world beaters. Glad to ref stopped their ritual of blocking the keepers line of sight at free kicks early doors. ( ref was very inconsistent today)

Correct he won us the game. In my humble opinion, and I'm not on Whitts' case, I Just don't think he showed any energy drive or enthusiasm or any determination to prove he's worth the contract he wants that's all..............

I'm no manager, so I guess what would I know
Exactly.
Whitts had a great game today and virtually every chance we had came through him besides his assist for the first goal and scoring the second goal.
Without him we would have probably lost the match.
No idea.

Whitts was MOM today by a country mile

Today we played 4231 with 'Dick,' playing in the centre of the attacking three. In a word he is not now Championship standard. Good servant that he has been he would be no loss if he weren't at City next year.
Kareem Harris has pace and has had a fairly good time since Warnock's arrival although his close control is his weakness. If he is advised that he is worth a mega contract because of his form since October and he goes elsewhere next season, then away from the fatherly influence of Warnock, he could become a one season wonder.
This summer under Warnock will be interesting.

He showed today what he lacks in legs energy he makes up with class. He's always been laid back, that's whitts and I would offer him a one year smaller wages as he can still bring something to he team albeit not as often.

Oh come on now. Whitts was excellent second half, Anyone who was at the game could see that.

Whitts always suddenly comes to life when contract talks are in the offering. He played well today but in a game which had little riding on it and the strength of the opposition was questionable.
I'm not against offering him a sensible new contract but draw the line at a bank busting long term one. £10kpw with incentives should be the top line,

Spot on

The standard expected of Whitts is more than the rest of the Team put together. Gunnars passing wasn't great (again) but we overlook this fact every time because its not his game, but Whitts can't run like Ralls and he is Lazy !!!!!!!!
the winning goal, the assist and a yellow and he is passed it
Anything decent from us was when he was involved. The problem today was Holiett can't score and in this formation he needs to and Harris couldn't burn his man and never had an answer after that, he also can't score.

Totally different in two halves. He was out of the game first half and our key player in the second.
Still class.....Hope we keep him.

Tony Whitts has past the "Maximum" earning period of his career, and I really believe he understands that, hopefully a "Sensible" contract will be agreed.

In the appropriate games, Whitts will be a major force, as he was today. The chance that Hoilett scuffed was created by Whitts off-ball movement. He can still do an amazing job in games where we don't need a battling midfielder and will often be the difference. Brilliant today.

His contract offer has to reflect that of a bit part player.

He done some good passes today but he is past his best and not worth breaking the bank for

Whitts, had an assist, a goal and a deserved standing ovation when he got taken off. Yes, he's past his best, but can still be a valuable player for us. Hope he stays.
Sat Apr 08, 2017 7:56 pm
He's neither laid back not lazy but he's certainly past his best but the fact is his best wouldnt have got us to where we want to be anyway. A good player but with limitations and we need a fresh new outlook with plenty of pace and dynamism. He never had either even in his pomp.

Just my opinion but I disagree, he was our best midfielder in the second half, without him we would have drawn or lost. Zohore looked tired and disinterested so Whitts frequently had no outlet so had to pass back or sideways in the last 30 minutes. The reason he was caught in possession a couple of times was there was nobody making space or runs from the centre so he had to hold the ball, put a few new signings around him and he will show class again. Great goal with his wrong foot today as well. I hope he stays with us for at least another season.

He is class.. never had pace
We have to keep Whitts

Anyone doubting Whitts on today's performance is simply biased against him and will never be convinced otherwise.
Look at it objectively and he was our most effective player by a country mile, no question.
There may be questions over whether he fits in with Warnock's tactics and I will trust Warnock on that but I will absolutely garuntee that he will have plenty of offers from teams above and around us.

the suddenly springs to life remark is unfair by any standards, his last contract was signed 3 years ago . ive seen plenty of life in him over those 3 years.

He still has a lot to offer someone, he should be starting week in week out and on a good wage. Will he for city? I don't think so as I think Warnock sees him as a luxury.

I can't believe people are questioning still after that.. the he didn't show the desire and all this.. if you have a player who can grab an assist and a goal to win us the game in this division just tells you the quality he has.

A goal, an assist and voted MOM. I think you summed it up when you said what do I know
Sun Apr 09, 2017 7:18 am
All these people wanting him gone, be careful what you wish for. Don't know what you had until it's gone.
Sun Apr 09, 2017 7:46 am
To slow for a season or so. Getting man of the match wasn't difficult on the display of the team against Brentford. He took a corner which we scored from and swung his standing leg to trickle the ball into the net for his goal, did nothing else all game. Has been a great player for us in the past but there is no sentiment in football. Past his sell by date and has to go.
