Sol Bamba ruled out of Cardiff City's clash with Brentford

Sol Bamba has been ruled out of Cardiff City's Championship clash with Brentford through injury.

And Neil Warnock has revealed the defender is not fit to face the Bees in the Welsh capital on Saturday.

"It’s difficult to say with Sol," said Warnock.

"He’s had a scan but he won’t be available for the weekend. It doesn’t look good."

The Cardiff boss admitted he was pleased with Murphy's performance in the second half against Paul Heckingbottom's side.

"McGregor’s bruising has gone down a lot and if there’s any doubt he won’t play," added the Cardiff manager.

"Murphy has done well when he’s played so we won't risk him (McGregor)."

Bamba's absence means Warnock is likely to stick with Bruno Manga in the centre of his defence, with skipper Morrison set to return to the starting side at Cardiff City Stadium.

Brentford ace turns attention to Cardiff in the wake of Leeds win

Wednesday 5th April 2017

By Chris Wathan

Brentford fans may be enjoying the spoils of the 2-0 win against Leeds as they work on Wednesday but, for Rico Henry, all eyes are on Cardiff.

The Bees were superb as they outclassed the Yorkshire side with Romaine Sawyers and Lasse Vibe finding the net.

The west Londoners also kept a second clean sheet on the spin and, while that pleased Henry, his mind quickly turned to the trip to Wales on Saturday.

“Two clean sheets is very pleasing for all the lads but the three points is the most important thing and we've got to take it Saturday,” Henry said.

We're looking to get into the top 10 but the most important thing is the next game. We've got to concentrate on that hopefully get another win.

“On our day we can beat anyone in the league like we showed against Leeds. We want to take the momentum to Cardiff.”

Henry was delighted to see team-mate Romaine Sawyers notch his second league goal for the Bees and believes it will have lifted his former Walsall colleague.

The full back added: “He's got another goal now and that'll give him confidence and the team confidence. Hopefully he can do it again.”

Match Preview: Cardiff City Vs Brentford – Team news, match facts and more

Date and Time: Saturday 8th April (15.00)

Venue: Cardiff City Stadium

Referee: Darren Bond

The Bluebirds welcome in-from Brentford to the Cardiff City Stadium as they look to battle their way back into the race for a top-half finish.

Cardiff welcome the Londoners to South Wales after two poor results away from home which has seen them pick up just one point from a possible six.

During the week, the Bluebirds shared a tedious and goalless draw with fellow mid-table club Barnsley away from home.

That result followed a disappointing collapse against Wolves to lose 3-1 and that now puts Cardiff four points behind this weekend’s opposition.

Brentford arrive in South Wales in fine fettle and a comfortable home win against play-off chasing Leeds United mid-week made them the talk of the Championship.

The Bees have steadily improved during the last few months and the turnaround in form was arguably started with a late equaliser against Cardiff in the return fixture on Boxing Day.

Brentford are currently 12th in the Sky Bet Championship and their rise to the top half his thanks to three consecutive victories.

The Bees defeated relegation-threatened Burton Albion and Bristol City before Tuesday’s win over Leeds.

The Bluebirds took a point from Griffin Park in the return fixture and in dramatic circumstances. Kenneth Zohore looked to have won it in the dying minutes before the home side equalised in additional time.

Neil Warnock:

“Dean’s done a really good job, they lost the top scorer Hogan and you thought he was irreplaceable but they’ve carried on and play an entertaining brand of football.
“I’ve never had a dull game against them. I’ve had some good games against them, going back to my days at Huddersfield.
“There’s nothing at stake really but both managers will be making judgements and that’s what these games are about now.”

So onto Brentford. Time to test those promotion hopes with a home game that ought to yield three points, but will prove difficult.

Whether Warnock's promotion aim is realistic won't become clear until October or November. But it can start in April. Players have a chance to earn a precious spot in the XI.

For those like Rickie Lambert and Peter Whittingham, the future looks bleak.

Younger, hungrier, cheaper options will surely arrive.

But for others — Kadeem Harris, Junior Hoilett — who knows? Most would love them to stay. Attacking adventure is necessary for any promotion bid, exemplified this season by Newcastle's brilliant Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

The Harris situation needs to be sorted. Whispers that the player could look elsewhere are rife around Cardiff, yet Warnock is adamant the best place for these players to grow is at Cardiff City Stadium under his discerning eye. It's hard to disagree.

Anthony Pilkington and Craig Noone are perhaps more likely to depart, as both could command sizeable transfer fees. The revelation that only f ive Championship clubs have paid more money to agents in the past year than Cardiff has surely reverberated around the Bluebirds' boardroom. Funds must be generated, but form must be gathered too. You get value that way.

Frugality and patience were part of the January model. Since then, events on the field have taken the Bluebirds forward.

And yet the fans must still remain patient, while Warnock will be thrifty in the transfer market.

So while we all wait for the oncoming storm, the players might as well serve up a delight to keep appetites whet. That starts against an in-form Brentford side. That starts now, not in August.

It’s towards Sean Morrison but headed straight into the arms of Daniel Bentley in the Bees’ goal.

Looks like Whittingham in the No.10 position behind Zohore, with Harris left and Hoilett right.

Ralls and Gunnarsson stationed in their normal central positions and the back four as expected.

Some early possession for Brentford as Jazz Richards gives away a foul.

Hoilett chance

Decent chance, as Hoilett and Zohore play a give-and-go on the right flank, the Canadian trying to curl home with his left.

It was well over but a nice move all the same.
