I never thought I would see the day a club like Wigan, who for years barely took 20 fans away and have no real history taking more than us away and are near the bottom of the Championship

Wigan might have been in the Premier, but they are a very very very small club.

They've had recent success which no Cardiff city fan has seen since the 1920s .unless I've miss read our history??

First of all massive respect to the 174 Cardiff fans who went tonight

I am a massive defender of our fans and our support in general but there are times when you have to hold your hands up in the air and say 'our support is terrible' at times and tonight is one of those times.

Irrespective of League position and whether it is a nothing game, to take just over 150 fans away for a Club like ours is absolutely appalling. Whilst not on our doorstep granted its not a 'massive' trip and will probably be done in around the 3 hour mark.

You would have thought there would be a good few exiles living in and around Yorkshire, parts of the Midlands and the North in general that are within 45 minutes to an hour away from Barsnley, add them on top of the Supporters Club who take at least 1 coach everywhere and then other independent travelers you would expect us to take 4-500 minimum ANYWHERE.

Obviously I haven't gone myself tonight so don't want to sound like to much of a hypocrite but I did all these trips in the 90's and we used to take a hell of lot more when in the lower leagues, remember going to Rotherham for a nothing game in either Division 2 or 3 on a Tuesday night with about 500/600 there.

174 for a side that is the only side in our capital city, in the second tier of english football with our catchment area is an absolute embarrassment and can be dressed up in no other way.

If uve been around a long time and yr not a new fan, Wigan have not even been in the Leagues like clubs like us.

They are not a football Town, I actually remember them bringing 15 fans to us on a Tuesday night.

No matter how much success they get, they will never ever be a big football club like us :thumbright:

I know that's what makes it worse they like so many have had success we could only dream of.

A lot of honesty :thumbright:

We have fans all over Yorkshire/Lancs/Midlands etc etc and more than what were there tonight.

Our away support is worse now than when we use to play away to Halifax or Tranmere on Friday nights.

We took more to Colchester and Rochdales on Tuesday nights.

AND OUR DREAMS CAME TRUE :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Over the last 17 years for me on the pitch have been the most successful years Cardiff City have had in my 44 years of supporting the Mighty Bluebirds.

Promotion from Div 4

Promotion from Div 3

Championship Winners

Promotion to the the Top flight of football (Premier League) for the first time in 51 years.

A season in the Premier League playing and beating some of the best club teams in the World.

Play off finalists and semi final winners

Play off semi finalists twice

FA Cup Finalists

League Cup finalists

Heroic FA Cup win against Premier League leaders Leeds

Won the Algarve cup in Portugal

Four trips to Wembley, most clubs dream of just one trip.

Only one relegation in our last 17 years, never really struggling in the bottom half of the divisions we have been in.

A New 33,500 modern stadium

Hooligan problem gone.

Cheap family tickets/thousands upon thousands of free tickets.

Big money and big name signings

Cardiff City continue to sell cheap season tickets

YET our season ticket sales went down from 22,500 to 11,500?

Gates reached a high of 33,500 during the above years.

We were selling out nearly every away game in Div 3/ Div 4 and in the Premier League it did not matter if tickets were £55.
And yet now our away support the last two years is now one of the worst in all four divisions?

That's nothing compared to little Wigan the rugby town 8 seasons in the premier league and winning the fa cup .that's my dream .not having to walk away for 2 years because my club was destroyed by one persons whim.

Wigan, have No real fan base and their fans disappear so quick its unbelievable, do u rem them bringing 15 away fans to us?

Wigan to me are a small small club without a doubt and the fans they got during those glory days were from all over Lancs to the the opposition.

Skiprat, Ok then even Bristol City near the bottom took more than us away,I could go and on.

317 Bristol City fans away at Preston tonight

Bristol City fourth from bottom.

Bristol City could go down, another awful defeat, they lost 5 nil.

The truth is we have lost a lot of our hardcore fan base thanks to Tan/Red Brigade

True, their success was massive, but they have no real history of years and years of making a fan base like we have.
Their fans were mostly not even from Wigan, 5,000 were away fans ever week and many fans from other areas.

I agree our away support is dreadful.our history is dreadful also. So many small clubs have had years at the top Fulham Wigan etc.it always seems out of reach for us

Even Millwall took away tonight to Shrewsbury over 400 fans in the lower leagues.

Carlisle,Grimsby,Millwall,Plymouth,Doncaster etc etc have not had our success and have not got our catchment areas.

It looks like then the only time we only going to take reasonable numbers is Saturday games to places like Bristol and villa. 2010 to present the home average is around 20000 so that's quite good .im still working out the averages decade by decade .so far 80s/90s 4500 70/80 12000 2000/2010 13000

Fair play, on working it out :thumbright:

I think it might improve if Warnock gets us in top 6 next season :thumbright: :ayatollah:

If you think about it they should take a decent number as they are still playing for their lives, whereas Cardiff are playing for next season, so really Wigan should have taken a few more.

the only period you can really compare this to is the last time we had a sustained run in the second tier. 62 to 82 {bar 1 year in 3rd tier.} only 3 of them seasons { the years we stood some sort of chance of promotion } saw us get an average higher than this season.the rest of those years we averaged about 10k.

Funny, I do agree with you on that, but when we were fighting for our lives our fans made out thats why our away support was crap

To me,when your either fighting for your lives or challenging to go up,then those are the most exciting times for football fans :thumbright: :bluebird: :ayatollah:

For me it just emphasizes the fact that we are actually a small to medium sized Club and it makes me laugh when people say we are bigger than the likes of Huddersfield, Reading, Birmingham etc and clubs like that.

Theres no grounds to call us a big club at all other than 'ifs, buts and maybe's', we are the 'sleeping giant' that never woke up.

I remember all the talk of how we would sell Ninian Park out week in week out if we got to 'Division 1/Championship' and played the likes of Wolves and Forest every week and would need a bigger ground and it never happened, we were down to 11/12,000 after one season.

All those years waiting for Wembley and apart from the FA Cup Final when we only got 25,000 did we ever emphatically sell out our allocations, not how I remember it, loads and loads of tickets floating around for all the games, tickets even went on general sale for the Carling Cup Final and Play Off final almost right up until just before the games.

Then we had Palace in the semi final and took 2,500 when we could have had 4,000+ whilst we gave them 4,500-5,000 and they sold the lot yet you would probably still have people who will have you believe we are far bigger than Palace.

Even in the Premiership we were mickey mouse, I only went to Stoke, Hull and Swansea and we only sold out the Jacks, 1,500 to Stoke, 900 to Hull, if I remember rightly we didn't actually sell out for Man City, loads of tickets floating about for Utd, don't think we sold out Everton, took 1500 to Southampton if I remember, 1200 to Newcastle, 1,000 to Sunderland, not good is it?

We did sell out Chelsea away £55 a ticket, Man United away I think was £50 a ticket and Liverpool & Everton away  A lot of Glory hunters got their hands on them from the Premier seats
