' NEWCASTLE UNITED ASK CARDIFF CITY '

27th March 2017

Championship club Newcastle United have asked Cardiff City for an allocation of up to 10,000 tickets for their match which has now been changed to a Friday night.

Cardiff City stadium holds 33,500 and the Bluebirds currently average about 16,000.

The away end holds about 2,300,but can be increased like it was for Aston Villa fans who brought 3,358 fans.

Apparently Cardiff are working on being able to give the North East Club 8,000 tickets and are expected to let them know this week.

Newcastle have asked for such a large allocation of tickets despite the match being changed to a Friday night, live on tv and an over 600 mile round trip.

Cardiff City's final home game of the season against promotion-chasing ' Newcastle United ' has been brought forward for TV coverage.

The Bluebirds were due to face Rafa Benitez's side on Saturday, April 29 at 3pm.

But the club have announced that the fixture will now take place the night before, on Friday, April 28 kick-off at 7:45pm., so it can be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Had my letter this morning and changed to the grandstand,I personally agree with this as it will make the club money and nothing on the game.Should be an interesting atmosphere

It is fans like you that make football so great to watch. The easy option here would have been to moan and groan. But you have chosen to take the positive outlook and hopefully everyone will now be a winner as a result

Undoubtedly some people will moan about this, but it's a sensible compromise with plenty of notice. You just know that some people will turn up on the day oblivious to the whole plan! But this is a good idea, especially as the Family Stand has been more than half empty since we left the Premier League.

I'm waiting for someone to post on here that it's all Vincent Tan's fault that they can't have their usual seat.

That shouldn't be a problem, fella

I don't think they were contemplating coming around to yours, as they heard you only have a two-seater settee and your armchair doesn't recline! ;) :thumbright:

I think this is a sensible amount, I wouldn't give them anymore.

Under the circumstances, give them the 10k they want!

A huge day for Newcastle United and I reiterate that Cardiff City fans would want the same, if the situation was reversed. We've all seen the desperate clamour for tickets for City's biggest games in the past! ;)

The club have set precedents, so it shouldn't be an issue. It's not as if we're going to sell out on the day and it's not that long ago that Wayne Nash and his cohorts brought down a Male Voice Choir to keep the Jack fans happy, so 10,000 tickets for some pretty decent and celebratory Newcastle fans pales into insignificance in what is a 'dead rubber' for Cardiff City :ayatollah:

Had my letter this morning and couldn't believe what I was reading because as most posters on this thread have already said this is about one thing, MONEY, however the snake oil salesmen that infest our club say this is about "Crowd Safety" - REALLY.

What has surprised me most about this is that the EFL are allowing it as surely providing such a large allocation of away tickets gives Newcastle Utd an unfair advantage over other clubs who have visited the CCS this season. As someone has already mentioned this will make for a very interesting atmosphere on the night and the risk is the atmosphere will be massively pro Newcastle. With such a close fight with Brighton for the Championship Title if it remains the same as it is today on the evening of this game how will Brighton feel about this? In my opinion the club should have provided the 2000 tickets or 10% of capacity and no more, like the 3358 they allowed Villa.

Is this a good business decision - YES. Is it fair to ALL parties involved in the Competition - Not in my opinion. I bet SKY will make a big story about this on the evening and it won't all be positive for our club.

Never mind Crowd Safety should be absolutely fine.

Wouldn't be any good cos I haven't got Sky Sports.
I was hoping the stadium sponsorship would go to SCS so they could replace each pair of seats with a sofa. It round be renamed the SCSCCS .

I don't want to see 10,000 geordies at our ground, it's going to seem like an away game for us. Foo-foo the money...it's only a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things. We could give them the same as Villa had (around 3,500). The Club has missed a trick here. Newcastle would be a very attractive game for Cardiff fans. The biggest game of the season for many, so all the Club had to do was offer free or cheap tickets to OUR fans and market it as a end of season sellout. I'm sure we could have got close to a 30,000 crowd. We got 28,000 for Derby last season and we would surely have beaten that. Instead we are "selling out" to the toon army. I'm old enough to remember 10,000 Sunderland fans and 8,000 Sheff Wed fans at Ninian Park for their end of season promotion seasons. It wasn't very nice to be honest.

We could still offer cheap tickets and I don't think we will sell out!

Bring em on looking forward to this game. The Club now needs to do a ticket for a fiver for season ticket holders to get as many of our fans as possible.

Perhaps not but I think it would be near to 30,000 if the Club could bother to get off their arses and make a big effort to promote the game. By far the biggest opponent in our division, a feeling of optimism following the fantastic job that Warnock has done, the promise of substantial funds for new players to help mount a promotion push next season, the offer of free or cheap tickets for our fans, run some ads on the radio and the Echo/WM.....not too hard really.

I have been in the family stand since the opening of the stadium (and in Indian park before) but thats okay since there are empty seats let's give them up because as we all know all other parts of the ground have "the sold out signs" up weeks in advance as we are such a well supported club.

You can't segregate the fans properly. Thats Football League rules, not stadium rules before Wayne Nash gets the blame.
