' CARDIFF CITY NEED TO FINISH '

Sun Apr 02, 2017 7:42 am

In my opinion to convince our floating fans to buy season tickets for next season Cardiff City need to finish higher than this and show they are up for it.

Yesterday many players looked like they were ready for their Summer holidays.

I can't wait for the clear out of players this June, you would think everyone of them would be fighting to stay on for next season.

Absolutely right Annis. Its good performances, & good results that put bums on seats, not experimentation with players. NW knows by now what the players are capable of, or more importantly, what their limitations are.

We need a strong finish to this season, starting with Barnsley on Tuesday night, & NW's talk about three or four new players in for next season is an understatement, imo!

Rick, I would not be suprised if a few strong and harsh words were not said to some of the City players yesterday after that performance.
The second half was just one way traffic.

Warnock will only want passionate players next season, who give their all for their shirt and manager :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I agree we now need wins starting away at Barnsley, the club must finish on a high, especially with a lot of our fans, they need to be convinced :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I agree Annis, bit of a concerted effort to finish the season off, its not good enough to hang the boots up yet a strong finish shows interest and sets us up for the promotion push next season.

It certainly does :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I spoke to Carl on his way home from Wolves and he was gutted as he wanted to see fight in our players and it felt like we never even turned up.

We should really be about 10th in the Championship and we need a strong finish to get everyone excited for next season :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I'm hoping yesterday was just a blip and that Warnock can fire them up for Tuesday. Some players need to realise they are playing for their shirts next season.

I agree.

Its a shame to be honest, we have some tough games left in the run in aswell, with the exception of Barnsley and Brentford the other 5 teams we play all have something to play for. I hope I am wrong but I can see us ending up finishing the season about 16th/17th, all things considered that won't be the end of the world, just a bit disappointing and unlikely to encourage the floaters as you say, in terms of buying season tickets anyway.

Out of interest how many points do people see us picking up now for the rest of the season?

For me...

Barnsley (a) 1 point
Brentford (h) 3 points
Sheffield Wednesday (a) nothing
Forest (h) 3 points
Wigan (a) 1 point
Newcastle (h) nothing
Huddersfield (a) nothing

8 points + plus the 51 in the bank end up on 59 points

In the past 2 seasons that would have given us a 13th and 14th place finish so maybe I was wrong above, all hypothetical anyway could end up going better, hopefully not worse and to be fair will be where a few on here predicted we would end up

The game v Barnsley on Tuesday and then the weekend game against Brentford will be telling, as City's players have two quick opportunities to put in a performance both the manager and the fans expect

After the international break some players (Gunnarsson is a perfect example) will still be tired and might be excused an 'off day' at the office in the initial fixture to follow

It seemed to show!

The rest of the squad were given an effective holiday and 'did their own thing' for 5 days, so really had no excuses and they should have been suitably refreshed and chomping at the bit for the game against Wolves but seemed not!

Did the international break have an effect on all City's players?

It would seem so...

Was Neil Warnock overly generous in allowing the rest time off?

Not in my opinion. I thought it was a good idea, as the players in general have worked hard of late...

Have some players pretty much 'accepted' they are not part of Neil Warnock's plans for next season and (given the unlikely scenario of relegation) started to 'wind down' in anticipation of a job-seeking summer?

That surely is a factor. Neil Warnock wears his heart on his sleeve and you'd have to be a Jason McAteer or Andy Cole not to realise when he's not happy with you! :laughing6:

I think some big changes are afoot come the end of the season and it'll be interesting to see who goes and who stays come the first game of next season  :ayatollah:

Personally I thought we leant a lot yesterday about our Captain. One he is not a leader and secondly he was again weak when defending in our box.

Admittedly he scores more than his fair share of goals from set pieces but that is being more than wiped out by bad defending at the other end.

If I were NW the first thing I would address this summer would be the Captaincy and whether Morrison is worth a place in the squad.

Morrison has had a few dreadful games this year, but overall I think him and our defence as a whole have done well and going forward a solid foundation to build from. I do agree though I think we need a new captain Bamba, Gunnar or possibly a new midfielder!?

24 points to play for and only 13 points off play offs, make a late push.

They are just experimenting now, preparing for next year, all mid table teams take a dip at thirst age of the season.

His main aim is next season not pleasing the floating fan

If he gets it right they will return.

Agreed,

I believe we should be aiming for about another 10 to 12 points from the remaining games with 21 available. It should be more but we also need to be realistic and understand NW will be chopping and changing to have a look at a few players and we will drop points because of that.

Finishing on 60 plus points after the atrocious few years we have had while stripping our wage budget and squad and at the same time bringing in some youngsters and changing to a more positive playing style would, I believe, exceed all our expectations. Certainly gives us a good platform. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
