Over 96% Remain Vote and

Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:13 pm

At last Gibraltar is getting the press it deserves in the U.K. because up until now everyone in the U.K. forgot about us!

Early signs are not good as it appears Spain will try and play hard ball via the EU to use Gibraltar in the negotiations to try to get it back

I bet no one who voted leave had any thought to the 30,000 people that live on the rock or the implications it could have on the UK

And people say let's unite and accept it

Food for thought

I've never understood the Governments fascination about keeping it, other than strategic position. Unless there is something hidden inside that rock.

One of the strangest places I've ever visited, almost reminded me of Worcester, but in the sun. Only good thing there was the monkeys at the top.

Yeah you're right, 30,000 people from Gibraltar are much more important than millions more in the U.K.

Unfortunately there are winners and losers whichever way a result goes. If you want to buy into the "unite" bollocks more fool you, they're just empty words. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine but don't let that get in the way of your moment of fear porn.

I was just posting to say people expect everyone to unite but it is nigh on impossible!

I am glad you think it will be fine - I keep you updated next time I am sat in a two hour queue to cross the border :o

Cross the border to Malaga - much more culture, more beautiful and generally a nicer place to be! Unless British patriotism, union jacks and winston Churchill are your thing of course.

Posturing from the Spaniard PM, who is looking for votes before their next elections and it's things like this that will convince even more Brits that self-determining Brexit is the way forward for the UK ;) :ayatollah:

The Spanish fishing industry have enjoyed fishing in English waters for donkeys years to name but one consideration.Your not as alone as you think.

All the British Gov needs to do is to the Spanishif they play hard ball with Gib then we will stop holiday flights to Spain and their Tourist industry will cease to exist, also Spain have several places around the World don't see them giving them up!!!!
There are 30,00- Spainish people working on the Rock, don't think they will want to lose their jobs.

My Brother works over there for Gib Telecomms, ispoke to him yesterday, he is not worried, It is just Hot Air from the EU who are Bricking themselves :bluescarf:

Just an opportunist situation being used by the Spanish government to gain support.

They could invade but we know what happened to the last lot that did that.

Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves! Yes I can just see Theresa leading out her Task Force a la Thatcher, hand in hand with the Donald on the bow.

The OP is right on one thing I never once thought about the 30000 people who live in Gibraltar before voting out

Of all the reasons to leave it didn't even make my top 100.

I was not a ardent leaver, i did think hard about it, but as a smaller government guy I couldn't endorse what was happening in the ever growing and over reaching EU.

I was concerned that the fall out from leaving would be difficult and that was always my doubt, would the pain be worth it. I must admit i never once thought about Gibraltar, nor cared.

I was pleased with Tusk's short press conference on Wednesday, but the crap coming out from anybody who is anybody since then proves to be this ever sprawling mammoth will be impossible to deal with.

The EU have never understood the much different British public's mentality. Any more of these daft demands and counter demands and the drawbridge will be firmly drawn. The EU can very quickly lose the PR battle and turn into the enemy with the great British public, very quickly flicking them the Vee's and support a super hard Brexit.

My gut feeling is we'd be better of sending delegations to USA,Japan,China, and the commonwealth and dump the EU until we are ready to talk sense with them

Spain is totally reliant on tourism particularly British tourists who spend more than any other nation. If Spain were stupid enough to veto any trade arrangement we could stop going there, 3 million to Majorca alone! Spain is an economic basket case riddled with corruption they would be crazy to antagonize us.

We need to keep Gibraltar. It is strategically placed to monitor who comes and goes through the straits.I lived there in the 90s and still have some good friends there. Lets shove up two fingers to Spain. They earn enough from Brits going there. Will the Spanish give up their bases in other countries?

There's a town down the road from me with a population more than 30,000 - not saying it doesn't matter but it doesn't have a say in how 35,000,000 will vote...

Re: Over 96% Remain Vote and

Mon Apr 03, 2017 7:14 pm

Gibraltar is British and the people there want to remain so, overwhelmingly. I can see why people in Gibraltar wanted to remain part of the EU and a compromise on their status can be reached easily.

All this talk of war though from over excited Tories is very embarrassing and not what we need right now. Very happy to have someone like Theresa May leading this country who is passionate but level headed. Michael Howards comments the other day could have scuppered our negotiations before they have even began.

You really have to come to terms that your side lost the Referendum in a democratic vote,if you can't accept the result may I suggest you consider living in Strasbourg
