The three hour Cardiff City transfer talks that Neil Warnock held to thrash out summer targets

Friday 31st March 2017

Neil Warnock has revealed the details of an exhaustive three-hour meeting that could boost Cardiff City's chances of challenging for promotion to the Premier League next season.

The Yorkshireman has transformed the fortunes of the club since replacing Paul Trollope and recently signed a one-year contract extension, as he attempts to fire the Bluebirds into the promised land.

And, ahead of his side's Championship clash with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, the Cardiff manager revealed he met with the club's finance director Phil Jenkins on Thursday in a bid to agree a budget to bolster his squad in the summer.

"We had a FFP (Financial Fair Play) meeting and we should hear about that next week," said Warnock.

"We’ve looked at players out of contract, those out on loan and we should know more about the figures in the next 10 days.

"We had a very good meeting last night which went on for three hours, regarding transfer targets. We've got to try and get the targets we think will help us as we’re a bit thin on the bench at the moment.

"You have to decide who you want. Today I’ll probably have between five and 10 messages about players. Every agent has got the best player you've ever seen!

"I’ve had the commitment verbally for what I can spend but until it’s in black and white we have to wait. Last night, Phil Jenkins hadn’t quite got the whole figures."

Club stalwart Peter Whittingham's future is also in doubt after Warnock revealed contract talks between the club and player had come to a stalemate .

The Cardiff boss is also waiting on contract developments with winger Kadeem Harris and defender Bruno Manga.

And Warnock has admitted that several players — including those under contract — could leave the Welsh capital in the upcoming transfer window.

"You’ve got to look ahead, I started looking ahead a few weeks ago after my conversations with the chairman and the board," added the gaffer.

"You have to have your own ideas and the Championship is a difficult league. You've got to compete for 46 games in a season. More than likely, your forwards will always have a period where they need leaving out and someone else has to come in.

"I want to try one or two things in these last games and there’s a lot at stake for some of the lads.

"I think I know what I’m wanting from the squad. There might be the odd one I've not made my mind up on.

"Some players who are under contract might leave and when you want to balance the books you’ve got to look at every option. You have to weigh it all up at this time of the year.

"The one thing you want in pre-season is harmony and everyone singing from the same hymn sheet."

Reading between the lines that's whittingham Harris and manga gone then. Good in one way as we need to cut our cloth accordingly and the days of Cardiff city being a charity to players is long gone.

A mixture of seasoned pros and a few hungry youngsters on loans and frees with the odd transfer is the way Warnock will go in the summer. One thing for sure it will be done nice and early :ayatollah:

I've got full faith that with the budget given, warnock is the man to give us the strongest possible squad come the start of next season. He knows the market, he's got the contacts, we're in good hands.

Wez, hopefully we'll see a good mix of youth and experience come in. I'm sure we'll see a few frees too, he's talked about looking at players out of contract etc.

I'm looking forward to the summer!
