Neil Warnock fires warning to Kadeem Harris after revealing Cardiff City are 'apart' with new deal for winger
By Chris Wathan

Warnock warns Harris the grass is not always greener else where as Harris is now talking to their clubs.

Friday 31st March 2017

The winger's contract talks have seen the two parties apart on wages, leading Warnock to warn "the grass isn't always greener"

Neil Warnock has warned Kadeem Harris to be careful what he wishes for after hinting his wage demands could scupper a new Bluebirds deal.

The Cardiff City boss confirmed he has held talks with the winger's father – who also acts as his agent – over a new contract with his current agreement running out this summer.

But the veteran manager revealed that the two parties are “a bit apart” following discussions during the international break.

Warnock has made it clear he has been impressed by 23-year-old Harris who has seized his chance under the Yorkshireman, making 30 appearances and scoring four times having finally forced his way into regular reckoning at the club he first joined from Wycombe in 2012.

Harris has been officially able to speak to other clubs since January having entered the final few months of his contract, and Warnock has hinted the wideman could be looking at other offers.

But he warned: “You've got to be a bit careful because the grass isn't always greener. I spoke to his father who looks after him and we were a bit apart.

“He’s not really established himself but I’d like to think he’s grown in confidence. The last couple of games have probably been his best. Will he go elsewhere and get the same opportunity? I don’t know? If people want to play for me then great.”

Harris is one of three senior figures Warnock is dealing with over a new deal having also admitted there is still no agreement with long-serving midfielder Peter Whittingham over extending his stay in South Wales.

But Warnock did offer hope over defender Bruno Manga, recently back to fitness after suffering a knew ligament problem on international duty with Gabon three months ago.

Manga was known to be one of the club's top earners and Warnock had at one stage been ready to offload the centre-back.

Yet he had been impressed with Manga's improved performances before his African Cup of Nations injury and now Warnock has suggested that there may be a deal to be done, albeit including a reduced wage.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Wolves, Warnock said: “We can’t sustain the wages Manga is on but he’s enjoying himself. I said to him, he’s had good money from the club for a few years. He’s part of my plans at the minute.”

More fool Kadeem if he listening to his Father's advice, he could be a top Championship player next season under Warnock but judging by Kadeem's Instagram account he believes he's a jetsetter, snaps of his clobber, fancy cars, holidays, simply whats wrong with the youth of today.

Would love him to stay however we should not be held to ransom, he is far from the finished article.

Settled in Cardiff, young, could be part of a promotion chasing side next season would be daft to leave.

Would be a huge step backwards for Kadeem-he's a favourite of fans too, he needs to remember that it's his career not his fathers or Warnocks - since the gaffer came in Kadeem has been given more opportunities than plenty of others, and rather than owe Warnock, he certainly needs to sit down and think the impact those opportunities have had on his career.
If he went he'd be lower end champ to top end L1 starter and higher champ squad player. He'd have to start again and fight for a place, where as with us he could really set the world alight next year and become a focal point of our team.

Agree with all the above (to date) and believe Kadeem Harris should think hard about abandoning the man who finally got him playing proper football

Equally, the club need to reward his improvement with a 'sensible' contract within the constraints we know Neil Warnock has to work with ;)

Cardiff City FC is a club likely to move forward at pace next season and that in itself should make Kadeem Harris want to be part of it, as his 'worth' will only grow if he is able to move forward again next season :ayatollah:

Didn't I read Warnock say somewhere that the attitude of Harris was the reason he hadn't played more for previous managers? Seems to be in check with what you say. You're right though. He's got the potential to carve a decent career under a quality manager here. Why go elsewhere for the sake of a few quid?

I guess it has to do with how much he thinks he can get at another club, and how much Cardiff can afford to pay him. It has been clearly stated that there is not a lot of money available here for a while, and human nature means he will most likely go wherever he can get the biggest pay cheque from. We have to remember that he has no real links to this part of the world, and may prefer moving back to the London area at some stage. He may also think that given our financial situation, his prospects of promotion may be better elsewhere. If I was him, I would stay for another season at least, but only he can make the final decision.

Some very interesting posts on this subject. Can KH develop into a top flight player?

I'm not so sure at this moment, personally. I feel he has the potential to do so, but then again so have many more before him, that have fallen along the way.

why do people base their lives on how much money they get paid ?
Is that a measure for happiness ?
or success ?

Neither.

Kadeem has been so patient at City while successive managers ignored him and shoved him out on loan.

Now he is playing regularly, has a manager who believes in him and could be a part of something special it makes no sense for him to move on... But money talks.

I think he'll stay... He has made so much progress in 6 months that he would be silly not to give next season a crack with us.

Barry boy, I rarely post on the forum - more of a reader, but your comment about the cash was spot on.

I think it comes down to what is in your first line. If another club is offering more cash then his Father will chase the Dollar without much consideration to anything else, unfortunately.

The past 5 years could be described as patience or it could be described as no other option? From a player perspective taking the highest offer always makes sense as they always trot out the narrative that they have a short career which can become even shorter at anytime due to serious injury and therefore they must maximise their earning potential.

It is a gamble either way but history has mostly shown as you state money talks.

All this strikes me as a similar situation to the Paul & Tom Ince debacle a few years ago.
