The 16-year-old wonderkid Rabbi Matondo was finally cleared to play for Manchester City after being signed from Cardiff City for £500,000,but it was totally out of Cardiff City's hands.

Under controversial new rules brought in to govern youth football in the UK, any club with a Category One Academy Status can move in for the brightest teenage talent in the country.

Because Cardiff City only have Category Two status for their own academy, their hands were tied and they were helpless when Man City came calling for the teen wonder.

An initial deal of £500,000 is understood to have landed Matondo for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City's side.

Clubs like Cardiff City can't compete with clubs like Manchester City,Liverpool,Chelsea,Manchester United etc anymore.

Seems wrong on so many levels but I suppose we can't stand in his way. May be this is the way ahead for the academy. Find promising youngsters and flog them on at 16 years of age for half a million?

Also it suit the family to move back to the north west where they moved to Cardiff from Liverpool :bluebird:

Disgraceful new ruling, but I suppose it supports the big clubs getting bigger while shitting on those below them! No surprises there...

Wow! Rules like that are ruining the game. Seems pointless having an academy if that's going to be the case.

Would the fee rise if he goes on to play for their 1st team or moves for a significant figure?
