Tom Lawrence and Emyr Huws

Speaking ahead of the Cardiff clash, Lawrence revealed: “I didn’t get the opportunities that I should have had at Cardiff City under Russell Slade and there were plenty off issues off the field that was unsettling the club,”

Lawrence has also been linking up with fellow Welsh international Emyr Huws to good effect in recent weeks after the midfielder was loaned to Ipswich by Cardiff on deadline day.

Huws will of course be missing for the trip to Cardiff due to loan conditions but Lawrence remains focused on the three points.

“The manager is not too happy with Saturday’s performance. We were nowhere near our best, so we’ll take the point, but we can’t perform like that again,” Lawrence added.

“When we played Reading and they got a draw out of us I thought we got robbed. We’ve robbed one at Barnsley, but I think we’ve been due a bit of luck.

“Now we just need to get the win before the international break. We’ve got to go to Cardiff and show how good we are.”

' IPSWICH TOWN '

Ipswich Town arrive in the Welsh capital having drawn their last six games and currently occupy sixteenth place in the Championship table.

Mick McCarthy’s men recorded a good 1-0 away win over Aston Villa midway through February, but since then they have drawn with the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United and Brentford.

Last time out, the Tractor Boys drew 1-1 with Barnsley at Oakwell. Midfielder Marley Watkins had put the Tykes in front in the second half, but a last gasp equaliser from former Bluebird Tom Lawrence earned his side a point.

Ipswich were active in the January transfer window in an effort to bolster their squad. Along with City's Emyr Huws, the Tractor Boys also brought Toumani Diagouraga and Dominic Samuel in on loan. McCarthy made four permanent signings in the window, with Jordan Spence, Kieffer Moore, Danny Rowe and Steven Taylor all arriving at Portman Road.

Ipswich: Blues face new injury problems ahead of Cardiff -

The72

Thursday 16th March 2017

The Blues face more injury problems as David McGoldrick and Tom Lawrence missed training earlier in the week, whilst Emyr Huws is ineligible to play his parent side.

Luke Hyman – who is yet to feature for the Tractor Boys this season in all competitions – continues to miss out on the action after a previous injury was aggravated in an under-23s game.

Hyam had undergone surgery on a damaged nerve in his leg at the start of the season but returned to the squad and appeared for the youth side recently. However, the Blues midfielder, who had his injury previously diagnosed as damage to his knee, had ruptured ligaments.

Town boss Mick McCarthy said: “Luke will be glad when the season is over.

“He will be out for six weeks or so from when he did it. It’s a blow for him and for us. Looking at Saturday, Kevin Bru and Kieffer Moore are our main concerns. Kevin took a knock in training on Tuesday and Kieffer has a groin strain.

“Tom Lawrence and Didz [David McGoldrick] both missed training at the start of the week but they trained today.”

With the injury count rising for Town, many supporters were hoping that Emyr Huws’ recent form could continue. However the winger is unavailable due to terms in his loan, but was also ruled out through injury by McCarthy.

“Emyr [Huws] can’t play against Cardiff because of his loan but he’s not fit anyway. He has a tight hamstring.”

Cardiff City can rubber stamp their Championship status for another season by passing the 'magic' 50-point barrier with a win against Ipswich Town.

The play-offs look beyond the Bluebirds' reach but today sees Neil Warnock lock horns with fellow managerial veteran Mick McCarthy , whose Tractor Boys outfit are looking to secure safety themselves.

Former Cardiff loanee Tom Lawrence will be among the visitors' most potent threats, with the Bluebirds still heavily reliant on Kenneth Zohore.

The remainder of the season will allow Warnock to trail his squad ahead of a potential promotion push next time around. Team news will be announced at 2pm with kick off at 3pm.

t’s almost a 3-5-1-1 from Ipswich at the moment as Cardiff hem them in. Noone and Harris are seeing plenty of the ball on the Bluebirds’ flanks and Ipswich are getting frustrated, conceding a couple of sloppy fouls in dangerous positions. You don’t want to do that with Peter Whittingham about.”
