Zola to be sacked if Brum lose at Cardiff?

Vital Birmingham City

Saturday 11th March 2017

Blues will be heading to Cardiff Stadium chasing their third victory under Zola. With the pressure increasingly growing on the Italian he surely cannot remain safe for too much longer, in fact a contradicting rumor mill would have you believe he’s essentially gone but then in true contradictory fashion others will have you believe he’s already been given a summer budget!

I personally abhor the sack-a-manger mentality that see’s teams have two or three managers a season but surely another defeat to Cardiff would have to spell the end? Zola has been given time and money yet has still completely failed to string any kind of run of positive results together. He’s won 2 out of 17 matches in charge which wouldn’t be the end of the world if we were picking up any points at all however 11 defeats is an absolute shambles.

Many are saying the honorable thing to do would be to step down but at this stage he’s made such a mess of it to step down looks like running away and I fear that is what is keeping him from doing this. He’s tried to rubbish allegations that he’s been told by the squad to revert to Rowett style training and tactics but if he doesn’t intend on taking advice from a team that were level on points with 6th placed Sheffield Wednesday prior to his arrival, or look at how his predecessor managed to achieve the results he did, is his aim genuinely to get us relegated?

Ambition is key but to deliver ambition you need to be able to use the tools at your disposal appropriately, the fancy football, meager defense and the misfiring front men appear to be the only way he knows how to use his tools. I am worried about tomorrow, I know typical Blues will mean that just as we all give up the likelihood of a spectacular and much needed victory increases but I’m not ready to rely on that yet.

Possession seems to be better and there’s a more passing game but in the words of Jorge Sampaoli:

“One night, I went to a bar, I was with a woman. We talked all night. We laughed, we flirted, I paid for several drinks of hers

“At around 5am, a guy came in, grabbed her by the arm and took her to the bathroom. He made love to her and she left with him. That doesn’t matter, because I had most of the possession on that night.”
