With Birmingham City currently on a terrible run and the play-offs now gone, the game is meaningless to many Brum fans other than their diehard fans who to be fair are still turning out in big numbers,1,500 Birmingham fans have bought tickets.

The match is not all ticket to Cardiff fans and with Adult tickets only £5 for Cardiff City fans and with manager Neil Warnock agreeing a new contract at Cardiff City, the place is buzzing ,the crowd is expected to be over 25,000 today.

An investigation has been launched after Blues’ fans brawled with stewards during the defeat at Cardiff City.

Birmingham Mail

Police were sent into the away end when Cardiff scored their first goal in the 2-0 victory over Gary Rowett’s side on Saturday - sparking ugly scenes between travelling supporters and stewards.

Earlier Blues’ supporters had taunted the home crowd with a chorus of the English rugby standard: ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot,’ angering some of the Cardiff support.

St Andrew’s officials have stressed that Blues will take action against anyone found to have committed an offence in connection with the crowd trouble.

A statement said: “The club recognises an incident took place involving a very small minority of the 1,582 Blues supporters who watched the team at the Cardiff City Stadium.

“South Wales Police and West Midlands Police have launched an investigation, in conjunction with Birmingham City Football Club.

“The club gives its full backing to the police and we will take action against any person who is found to have committed an offence during this incident.

“The club stresses that although it was a small minority involved, we nonetheless do not tolerate any form of crowd disorder among our supporters.

“Birmingham City Football Club would like to sincerely apologise to any Cardiff City fans and their families for any hurt or distress caused by the action of a mindless few, who are not representative of the majority of genuine Birmingham City supporters who follow the club away from home.”

Police move in at Cardiff City Stadium

Birmingham have apologised to Cardiff City for any ‘hurt and distress’ caused after a fracas broke out in the stands during the clash between the two clubs over the weekend.

South Wales Police and their counterparts in the Midlands have now opened an investigation after trouble flared in the away supporters end at the Cardiff City Stadium when the Bluebirds took the lead in a Championship match they went on to win 2-0.

Some Birmingham fans allegedly scuffled near the Cardiff Family Stand, with police called in to take action.

Birmingham have stressed only a ‘small minority’ of the 1,582 of their fans who travelled were involved. And the Blues have branded any individuals involved ‘mindless’, vowing to take action against anyone found guilty of any wrong-doing.

A statement on the Birmingham official website stated: “The club recognise an incident took place involving a very small minority of the 1,582 Blues supporters who watched the team at the Cardiff City Stadium.

South Wales Police and West Midlands Police have launched an investigation, in conjunction with Birmingham City Football Club. Two fans were arrested on the day for public order offences.

A West Midlands Police statement said: "An investigation is taking place regarding to disorder that took place during the second half on Saturday. Two Birmingham fans were arrested on the day for public order offences.

"This disorder involved a very small minority of fans who travelled to Cardiff."

Cardiff City Stadium officials have spoken to the Safety Advisory Group ,which is made up of representatives from South Wales Police and Cardiff County Council, about the incident.

Stadium manager Wayne Nash said there had been 'minor' incidents in the ground during the second-half of the match.

"We are talking about a very small minority of the travelling Birmingham supporters who were involved in this and no Cardiff City supporters at all," said Nash.

"This is really the first incident of this kind we have had so we will look at it and work out what needs to be dome moving forward.

"We have made massive strides against this sort of behaviour over the years and pride ourselves on providing a very safe venue.

"We had half a million people visit us in the past year and arrests are in single figures."
