Cardiff City to sign a 'couple of goalkeepers' this summer as Neil Warnock confirms Allan McGregor won't stay

The Scot on loan from Hull City, has been a positive influence according to Warnock — but his wages will prove a sticking point to a permanent deal in South Wales.

Neil Warnock has confirmed a goalkeeper will be on his summer shopping list after admitting he can't afford a deal for Allan McGregor.

Bluebirds boss Warnock snapped up McGregor on loan from Hull in January, keen to add his experience to the squad as the former Scotland No.1 returned to fitness from injury.

After an uninspiring start, McGregor has looked solid and prompted questions as to whether Warnock would try and persuade the Tigers to agree a permanent deal in the summer.

Hull, currently in a battle to stay in the Premier League, already have Eldin Jakupovic and former Cardiff keeper David Marshall competing for a place in Marco Silva's side.

But Warnock, who is keen to slash the wage bill at Cardiff City Stadium to allow him to fund a promotion push, admits McGregor's Premier League wages make a deal a non-starter.

And the Cardiff chief when asked whether the 35-year-old McGregor would be an option in the summer, Cardiff chief Warnock said: “Not really. I could have four keepers on Allan's wages!

“I can't blame him, he's in the Premier League, but it's looking very unlikely. We'd not be able to.

“He's done well for us after the first couple of games where you could see he was rusty, at Brighton and Reading, but he's been super for us. Not just on the pitch but around the place as well. He's got that experience and I don't have to worry about him at all.

“But I'll be now looking to bring a couple of keepers in if I can.”

Cardiff already have two senior keepers on the books in Ben Wilson (currently out on loan at Rochdale) and Brian Murphy, while Ben Amos will return to Bolton at the end of his loan spell having fallen out of contention.

Got to think budget- will be low end champ/high end 1st division keepers eager to prove their worth rule out top champ and Oren keepers unless a loan deal for a youth player. For me it's got to be Daniels at Scunthorpe backed up by Murphy and then a 20-24 something back up who's not Wilson

Hopefully the club have learnt their lesson and realised that a decent keeper is imperative if we're going be serious about a promotion challenge.
If it looks as if we won't have to fork out much upfront (keeping Saadi is part of that), then I'd like us to splash out on Jordan Pickford from Sunderland
